I need a blackfacing and a cap job....

I need someone to send my super reverb chassis to to blackface it and cap job it for me. I've searched and searched for someone locally, and there's just no one that can really do it for me. I need a place that does a good job at a reasonable price. I'm not asking for cheap, because I'm a believer that you pay for quality, but I don't want to be ripped off either. If any of you guys have suggestions please let me know. I also need a good place to order a black faceplate and blackface correct grill cloth from.

thanks in advance :)

I sent a speaker out of my super to Jeff Seal (well, the company he works with) and they reconed it and did a FANTASTIC job on it...guess it should be a no brainer to send it to him :)

Seriously, Jeff does fantastic work, and is a great guy to boot. I have no doubt that he could do exactly what you're looking for. Cosmetics is not area of anything really. I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of where to go for that.

Where has jeff been anyway..

Send it to my brother Bruce Collins. He does the best amp repairs and mods I've
heard. Everything I know about amps I learned from Bruce. Bruce knows great tone...trust me.

May I make a suggestion? Have Bruce put reverb on both channels. It'll make the normal channel sound as ballsy as the reverb channel.

And have him replace the .047 and .1 caps in the tone stack with the Marshall
value of two .02 caps. And have him tweak the midrange resistor on the normal channel for more mids. The result will be a tone more like a tweed Bassman or Marshall Plexi from the normal channel only you'll also have reverb.

I would also suggest having him tweak the amp for a little less negative feedback. You'll still get great clean tones but when you want more of a touch sensitive tone and a little more overdrive when you dig in and sting a note you'll have that too.

One more thing would be to tweak the reverb recovery circuit for a little more boost...it'll make the amp a little ballsier, but you'll still get nice clean tones.

Bruce or Jeff for sure will do you right and at a good price. What you are asking to do is not difficult and should not take too long.

Does the amp sound good now? If it does, are you sure you want to blackface it? I only ask that as lots of players actually prefer the reverb on silverfaces!

While your at it, have them do something fun to the "Normal" channel if you want some variety. I did a tweed thing to evan's amp when I did the Evan Rude.

This is not to take away from Jeff Seal at all, Jeff is a fine amp tech and builder...I have seen and played his amps first hand and was amazed at the workmanship, quality (of both parts and build) not to mention the tone...all that said I sent my Twin Reverb to Bruce for a Blackfacing, cap job, new tubes and all the mods and tweaks that Lew mentioned...I could not be happier with this amp...it sounded good before (good enough to be my main gigging amp for a long, long time) but after getting it back from Bruce it simply is amazing!

It now not only sounds better than ANY SF Fender I've ever played it sounds as good (if not better) that most (if not all) Blackface Fenders I've played! It not opnly sounds better but with the mods to the amp I lost NOTHING in the way of vintage BF Fender tone BUT I gained a whole new bunch of tones from the other channel...simply amazing. Bruce does some of the best work I;'ve ever seen, uses high quality parts and has amazing ears for tweaking and making an already killer sounding amp sound even better!

I send all my gear; except for the Celtics, to Jeff Seal.

He's very busy and does a lot of work in the greater Houston area, but that is the price of being as good at what he does.

Not to take anything away from Bruce - I just have not used any item he has worked with yet. But then again, have not had too since Jeff and Scott_F do fine work.

--- EDIT ---

ANother reason, Jeff will contact you and tell you what condition your amo is in and how much time and money it will take to get it to sound the way you want... ++++++
