I need a bright neck pickup...

I built an all maple bodied Flying V with 250k pots and while the cheapo bridge pickup sounds fantastic, the neck sounds like thuddy mud. So i need a bright neck pickup. Anyone have any suggestions? I dont care about which brand either. I was thinking of a GFS Dream 90 humbucker sized p-90, what do you think of it?

Thanks in advance.

Re: I need a bright neck pickup...

Bill Lawrence L-500C!!!!! Some might say the Dimarzio Humbucker from hell, Pearly Gates, Duncan Jazz, etc. I have played them all and The L-500C is the brightest bucker and it also has great tone and personality.

Duncan Jazz or Duncan Full Shred. IMO two of the brightest pups SD makes.

Like I have said, the L-500C is brighter than all of the mentioned suggestions! Yes, I have played the Full Shred also! No, it is not brighter than the L-500C.

I trust theodie's perspective. He seems to love those Lawrences better than the Duncans!

I love them both actually!!!! Except a small "few" certain Duncan models!!!! LOL!!!! As far as Lawrence and Duncan, depends on what I want the guitar to do!!!! If I want MAXIMUM versatility (not some want to be, people say its versatile but it does nothing great), I reach for the Lawrences for maximum versatility. If I want to 100% nail a sound or I want something very classic sounding, I go for a Duncan! Of course, there are exceptions to the rule though.

Isnt this the pickup that Dimebag used? Im not a real fan of Dimebags tone. Or maybe he used the XL model?

Thanks for all the responses and keep 'em coming.

He supposedly used the XL and at times the L also! Bill Makes a XL, L, R, C. The C is the least hot and the XL is the most hot!

I have one of those. Mine is a neck pickup but I used to use it as a bridge pickup in a Strat with a pair of SSL-1's as the neck and middle. Never even tried it as a neck pickup, but it worked great as a bridge pickup with "stock" Strat single coils.
