i need a different light duty amp

I have many amps... Mostly tube heads and a few combos..... I jam every few weeks with a drummer and don't need my big amps as he plays extremely quiet..... Tonight i was using my Fender Princton Chorus combo because it was portable and light.... In the past i have also taken my Peavey Classic 30, an original 65 Deluxe amp, and a small Berhinger POS..... The solid state amps suck at any volume above 2 and the Tube combo amps i like with some guitars and not others...

Been thinking that maybe a modeling amp may suit these jams better.... or maybe get a keyboard amp to play my POD thru.... Any suggestions what i should at least look at as far as modeling combos....? Vox's.. Line 6, others... or should i just get a Keyboard amp so i can play various Modeling Preamps thru it...?

The key is.... light and easy to carry but still have some volume headroom if needed

You're pretty much going to get the same results with POD/keyboard amp as you would the Behinger combo, all SS in the end. If you want to use your POD without disapointment, get an Atomic Reactor. Personally, I'd keep on using the tube combos.

How much juice do you need? even a small keyboard amp is 60 watts...I'm workin my volume down these days and am extremely happy with my Roland Cube 30. And good tone is good tone. Ignore those "It's got to be tube!" yahoos. Use your own ears.

Well around the house i have used Solid State amps for years... I own some great tube amps in my collection.... A 5150 stack, an early 80's JCM 800 stack, a 65 Deluxe, A Classic 50, a Classic 30.... None of which i can use at home for the most part as they have more volume then i need in the bed room... So over the years i have used Solid State Fender, Marshall, and a small Berhinger for bedroom levels... And a POD for headphone practice... Right now i have a mini Marshall MG10cd-(bought for $10!), 2 SS Fender amps-(a Princton Chorus amp, and a Stage 100), and an SS Berhinger 1x10...

The Princton Chorus amp has been my favourite practice amp for years in my bedroom.. at a whisper of volume you can get a fuzzed out stack sound with someone sleeping in the next room.... I've used different Princton Chorus amps over the years! I also miss my Ultra Chorus amp! The Ultra had some nice Clean chorus tones and some balls! The Princton has Cheap Cr*p speakers that die when the volume is turned up to 4!!!!! The Ultra used to take a pounding and some headroom at 130 watts stereo... Miss that loud clean Chorus tone... if i can get a cheap used one i'll snag it! Local store has a 1990 Power Chorus in and everyone says stay away from it as they are well known to have trouble with the board

When i'm jamming with this drummer i just want a small amp (1x12 or 2x10) with some guts, and maybe some built in effects.... If we added a Bass player i'm sure i would use my Tube amps to be heard..... We are also doing some recording to his computer which is why i was thinking maybe a modeling unit would be cool..

If i don't go modeling i may end up with a Traynor tube combo..... I like those things but the idea of a small modeling amp also sounds good for fooling around with....

As far as volume needs my 60 watt SS Princton Chorus amp's volume was on 3 last night.... this drummer is quiet

How about those vox valvetronix amps? They have pre amp tubes used in the power section. I have heard good things about these amp. I tried on of the smaller wattage ones and it sounded pretty good. They should give a bit of tube distortion with louder volumes.

yes i've heard good things about those Vox amps as well! They do sound good. I may not go with a modeler amp in the end.... may try a Blues JR if i can find a used one cheap....
