I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

I found a Rectoverb Combo for $650 and a stilleto Ace combo for $800 (maybe able to talk him down to $700-750). Which one should I choose???????????

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

The ACE still holds up a clean tone at louder volumes right??

Yeah but probably not as much as the deuce.

Which ever one you feel sounds better when you get to play them in person, with your guitar.

They are both great amps.

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

Appreciate the suggestion, however I would have to order the lonestar used from a store (theyre running a few hundred more than the rectoverb and stiletto).

The Nomad 55 you idiot. Aren't you paying attention? Mine has successfully benched all my other Mesa gear for the moment.

Ah .. yeah I got mine used for 1 grand.. 4x10 and it rocks hard. It is known as a blues amp but I play heavy stoner rock with it and it keeps up with JVM half stacks no problems and has great drive on the second channel too... Anyways good luck with your search, you can't go wrong with a Mesa/Boogie

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

Granted my exp was limited, it was an older model and I didnt take time to really dial it in, but I'm more of a no frillz kind of guy. I like versatility in basic setups. That's why I like the rectoverb and stiletto. It does have some knobs and switches, but it's a straight ahead 2 channel amp. I just want to jam, I don't want to spend an hour doing the contra code on my amps panels.

Even though they have a more simple layout compared to other Mesas, theyre still a pain in the ass to dial in. Not nearly as simple as a Marshall or VHT. Id go for the Stiletto... give yourself sometime to learn it inside and out.

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

I get the simplicity argument. I saw the MK V and said Dude I am not smart enough (or rich enough) to get this amp.
But in retrospect I now have a DR 3 channel, and an Express 5:50 combo for smaller gigs. Well if I sold those and bought a MK V head I could handle larger and smaller venues using power scaling and just going 1x12 or 4x12 cabs. To me the deal is get your tone where you want it and leave it there (although it is hard to not twiddle).

I really like the 5:50+ concept so far but the lil bastard smoked two sets of power tubes in a week and is at the amp doctor as I speak. Can't wait to get it back. A new 5:50 head runs $1250 or so and may be in your price range. But it sounds like you want more of the British sound and the 5:50 is more grunt and chug, to my ears, and less singing leads.

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

You want simple, huh? The Heartbreaker, the Dual Caliber and the Nomad are the ones that did not disappoint me; they did not flub and dialing them in was easy even for a six-knob man like me, haha. The bestsellers on the other hand, including the Stiletto... I'm not a fan of any of them, to put it mildly.

Not that you would give a flying puck about one mesa hater's opinion, would you? ;)

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

This thread makes so much more sense once you realize that it is nothing more than a brilliant parody.

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

I have a Rectoverb combo. Love the sound on vintage mode. It will easily hold up to half stack, but is very heavy! That said, I still lug it around.

Re: I NEED a MESA but which one?!?!?!?!?!

I'm really surprised that nobody has recommended the electra dyne! It's my favorite Mesa and its very simple to dial in. Huge balls and awesome clean. Boom.
