I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

I have a little roland xl40watter, but its an outdoor wedding, I was told no amps, and its only about 50 people or so max.

I may take the guitar camping a time or two so it can be used or dented and whatever, There's a busted Martin dread on ebay right now too... may be able to fix it up good enough to make noises come out of it ha ha.
I really appreciate all the input guys. I know electrics well, but I rarely ever play acoustics, lots to learn still.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

. Epi masterbulits are cheap laminate guitars, and the sound does not project from them, but gets buried in all that junky wood.

Where did you get that idea from? There is no laminate in my Epiphone Masterbilt. It's a solid rosewood top with solid mahogany back and sides. All of them are solid wood. Next time you make an "informative" post you might want to check your facts.

I've compared my AJ-500 to a '78 and an '84 D-28, it blew them both out of the water, it wasn't even close. I've played maybe 10 guitars that sounded better than my guitar; a pre-war J-45, a 50's D-18, half a dozen Collings, a Roy Noble, and a couple of Bourgeois.

Dunno if you'd get a s/h one in your price range, but some of the most 'projecting' acoustics are Blueridge. Even their laminate models are great value, and they are loud with great tone. (I think their projection is due to a 'forward-shifted X-brace').

If I were to buy anything other than a Masterbilt at the <$1000 price point, it would be a Blueridge. A shop near me carried them for about a year a while back, and I almost ended up with one twice, but had some unexpected expenses pop up that prevented the purchase. I can't remember which ones they were, but both were dreads of some kind. Not only did they sound good, but they played amazing.

Check your facts before you post: your AJ-500 is a solid spruce top with a rosewood bridge, and solid rosewood back and sides.

BTW, the bride is going to want to have a say in what's playing while she's walking down the aisle... that'll influence the guitar choice, and whether you'll be amped (they may have to concede on that point).

I have the AJ-500M, so while I was wrong on the top wood (it's Sitka Spruce) the sides and back are Mahogany.

At least I got the solid wood part right!

*chuckle* That you did, as well as choosing a great guitar - I played one a friend's girlfriend bought him, and it was quite nice.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

I don't think there is a better acoustic on the market under $1000. I spent months trying different brands before I picked out mine. Six years later, I still love it. I've said before that were I in a position to afford a Collings, I'd still probably use my Epiphone as a touring and stage guitar.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

Well, what did you get? Yamahas are great acoustics - and a a great value.

I scored a used (hate to use his name)...Bret Michaels Dean guitar.... currently enroute. It looks rock and roll, should sound great too from all the research/reviews I found... and I also scored an early-mid 80's Yamaha J-80 IIRC and its currently at the shop getting setup. I got Both guitars for under $200!!

obligatory pics when I get them in my hands again

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

The best I've heard for Acoustic/Electric is the PRS P22 or PRS P22 Trem.
