Re: I need help selecting a 12ax7 for my marshall.
Great link! Never knew how much those preamp tubes affect tones. My pops was an old ham radio and repair tech, gonna have to go through his old tube stash and play around.
Re: I need help selecting a 12ax7 for my marshall.
The Groove Tube you want is the 12AX7C. Also known as the 9th Generation Shuguang 12AX7A...which you can find in white boxes for half the price. It just may not be tested like the GT would be.
Re: I need help selecting a 12ax7 for my marshall.
If it must be a GrooveTube then it is the 12AX7C as stated above.....Keep in mind that Groovetubes does not make tubes (yes they do, a few). They test and select the better ones to re-lable with their logo. Any reputable tube supplier will do the same if not more to insure they sell you quality tubes......
That being said, my first choice these days is the Tung-Sol reissue 12AX7. Order from Doug at www.dougstubes.com and tell him you want it graded "high gain"
Or...tell him the type of music you play and the tones you're searching for and he may have a better suggestion, he's got a knack for that!

The Tung Soils are bright and strong. Personally I like them best in amps like Fender tweed Deluxes which tend to sound a little dark and benefit from a brighter tube like the Tung Sol Reissue. But you might like it in your Marshall. I think it would be to bright for me though.
