I Need Pedalboard Ideas!

I don't want to go through the pain of building my own since I build way too much other stuff and I have a full plate right now. But I need a pedalboard because I think I have finally found my sound in the pedals that I have and they need a home now.

I don't want to spend a huge fortune but I need some ideas for pedalboards that will fit what I need. If you have any ideas, go ahead and throw them out there. Try and keep it in a relatively safe price-range.

Here is what I need:
- A home for 12 pedals (a couple of which are massive)
- One of the pedals is a POG which is 18v, so that should be accounted for
- A power supply that will give good quiet conditioned power (or as quiet as it can get)
- Preferably a case as opposed to a gig bag carrier

This will be my first time using an actual pedalboard so I am pretty new to this whole game, and there is a lot I don't know about getting a good pedalboard together.

they can get up there in price but i really liked the pumaboard i had. he can make one in any size you need. the pedaltrain pro might also work for what you need. plus you can get one with a hard case. i have had good results with both brands. for power a supply most will suggest a one spot. i have not tried one myself but alot of people use them.
i like the voodoo labs and the MXR/CAE power system. i never liked the idea of daisy chaining the power like with the one spot. if you went with the voodoo labs you would probably need 2 since they only have 8 plugs. the MXR/CAE was probably my favorite. it has something like 16 outputs. 8 9volts, 2 adjustable from 4.5 to 15 volt if i remember right. 4 18 volt and 2 9volt ac outputs.
both the voodoo labs and the MXR/CAE are very quiet and worked great for me. but as i said they get up there in price.

I recently ordered one of these pedal boards and like it alot.

I ordered the 32" board with the case.

The board is BIG. The riser can be placed anywhere you like. Underneath the riser, I fit a Dunlop Brick and a PP2+ with no problems.

I'm making a few modifications to mine and a complete review will be posted once completed. I can tell you the board is very sturdy and very roomy. The case is very good quality with good latches.

If you want to go cheap you can check out these boards from pocketrunks on ebay. Mine has not let me down although I don't take it out very often. It is like having all the pedals on the floor, which makes it hard to reach the back ones. If you want to go with an elevated or angled board it will cost you unless you build it yourself.

As for power supplies I love my bbe supa charga. It comes with tons of power options and for the odd pedals (like my crybaby wth 1/8" power) go here to get every cord/adapter imaginable.

I kinda like that idea.

What would everyone think about a 32" lytboard with 2x Dunlop bricks? Would that get me where I need to be?

Pedal Train Pro is what I'd recommend, it's a great size, and has a space underneath for a Pedal Power 2... and possibly a DC Brick... I think you'll need the Pedal Power 2 for those power-hungry pedals. I don't use quite as many pedals so the Pedal Train 2 is enough for me, but it's great!

I have a pedal train 2 with a visual sound 1-spot, which works great for all that I need. It's very light and easy to transport . . . since you want to hook up 12 pedals I'd second the suggestion of a Pedaltrain Pro. You can always mount a voodoo labs pedal power or dunlop brick underneath the chasis if you don't like using wall-warts. Don't forget to use decent cables to hook up your pedals too . . .

I am currently using my 1spot to power all my pedals with the exception of my POG and digitech whammy. I don't know if I am too keen on the daisy-chaining anymore.

If you want to buy a pre made case; consider one of these. I do not have one(I made mine) but am considering it. I did buy an amp case for my Bogner Shiva from them and it is well made yet fairly light (considering it has 85lbs of amp in it). The corners & hinges are very well made. For less then $100 you can get a decent board that you will just need to wire.

I like the dunlop brick, however they do not have isolated outputs. I'd recommend getting the PP2+ instead and skip the brick...

The Lyt pedal board is made of a composite wood. Hard to explain - its not compressed particle board. Its thinner and lighter but still very strong. It does have some flex, but that's not a worry.

Here's what I pulled from Lyt's FAQ page:

What is the board made of?
It is made from a wood-like material but IT IS NOT cheap MDF or particle board. It is a RIGID wood composite.

Is it strong?
We have never had this board material break yet..well over 4000+ boards sold so far.....even the guys on the "heavier side" (in weight and in music style) say these boards can continuosly take a moshing. LyT boards do flex a tad (and we do mean a tad, since we designed it to flex--we could have made them NOT flex) but so do skyscrapers, bridges, and lots of well built things. You see, these structures are MADE to flex and that adds to their strength. Our boards feel better under your feet because they have a tiny bit of flex....Put it this way: what's nicer...walking on concrete floors or hardwood floors? BUT, make no mistake about it....our boards do NOT bend or feel flimsy... as you can see in our feedback about that!

The Pedal Power 2 is more than I have in my life savings, and I would need to buy two of them to power all my pedals. That is the only reason I wanted the brick.

The Dunlop brick has only 300ma of its 1000ma available on the 9 volt outputs.

They don't make that well known to be honest....

That may or may not be enough for you... frankly it wasn't for me and after overdrawing it for a long while, like a few years, it blew up and took several hundred bucks of pedals along for the ride since its basically a daisy chain.

Sort of a rare failure, but a terrible failure nonetheless.

The brick was replaced with a PPII which has been great. Powers everything cleanly and silently... not that the old rig was noisy but it was noticeably quieter with the PPII and there's still a ton of power available.

And the big thing is that I see it as cheap insurance, i've got about $1500+ of pedals on my board at any given time. Isolated outputs are great... in the future if one pedal smokes it won't take everything else along for the ride.

As for a case, its really hard to beat the cost vs. performance of the Pedaltrains if you need a great hardcase.

I bought a few cases last year from pockettrunks on Ebay... aka NY case company, aka Hybrid Cases, aka Island Cases and they're JUNK. Terrible quality. Ok for local weekend warrior transport but not much more. Terrible support too, one case arrived with a 5" crack through the plys and I had to chase them for weeks on a resolution...

Well I got a pedal train Pro with PPII+ installed, velcro, and carrying case. I still need to get cables for my pedals though. I was unaware that the Digitech Whammy is AC driven so that will have to be on it's own, but...

I need to find a double cable to power my 18v EHX POG. Any ideas on where to get those? The rest of the power cables should be the common 9v boss and ibanez plugs.

Josh, if it is still of interest. I'm using my gator board for 2 weeks now and am happy.
What I disliked first was, that the psu under the board is just a bus and the psu is to
be connected additionaly, but got used to it fast.
It's a neat and affordable solution - looks well manufactured as well.

I actually ended up getting a Pedaltrain Pro, PPII+, and an MKS Pedal Pad 2. Between those 3 things it pretty well covered all my pedal needs. Here it is...
