I need Pickups to tame a bright Les Paul!

Re: I need Pickups to tame a bright Les Paul!

a brite les paul? just the thought of that makes me cringe, ive never heard of a brite les paul. im not an expert but that just seems weird ,what kind of les paul is it and how old is it because if its new, gibson is drilling holes in the body to reduce weight, because the ceo of gibson is a trumpet player on crack for oking that.not select lps but they are ALL weight relieved now and taking away from that guitars mass will briten it up.

Man, I've raised and lowered the pickup, raised and lowered the screws. I'm getting my Custom in here tonight or tomorrow. I'll see what that does. Good suggestion about the cap change. Would the .047 bleed a bit more treble to ground vs. the .022?

Re: I need Pickups to tame a bright Les Paul!

Update, just put the Custom in and raised it up closer to the strings. Sounds really good!! Did fill out the b and e strings a bit so they are not quite so bitey....much better balance. The custom rocks hard! I just picked up a PG neck off E-bay so that should be a good match for the Custom. Cool!!

I found the C5 or CC will tame a bright guitar, C5 sounds very nice in my Les Paul! PGn & C5 I find is a very good match.

Hey J. LaG, do you still have the 300k volume pots in there with the C5 and PGn?? I've got a PGn on the way and the Custom sounds great. I had a C5 in my LP Double Cut a few years back and I did not like the "lack of mids" but am wondering if it will sound different in my LP Standard. Thanks.

I've got the RS Guitarworks Super Pots in my Les Paul the volume pots measure around 515k ohms and they have more of a linear feel to its taper! PG N is a great pickup I like that a lot more than the bridge version it worked well with either the C5 and CC I'm sure it will work nicely with the Custom too!

Thanks J. You don't find the C5 to scooped? I'll probably stick with the Custom for now, but I wouldn't mind trying a few mag swaps with the Custom. Maybe A8, A5 and/or A2. What do you have in your bridge now?

No I dont find the C5 too mid scooped, I think it sounds fatter than a pick up that has too much mids, theres so many other factors that can make your pups sound good or bad!

If you can get hold of an aged a2 from an antiquity pickup, I think you'd be very pleased. Custom Custom and other a2 pickups get more open and sound a little more hollow with those magnets. And the highs definitely more behaved. The only important downside is that you'd have less attack from your pickups.

Good luck,

B
