Many people take steel wool and tung oil to their painted necks, to turn them into non-painted ones . I'm fairly sure Zakk's necks are raw, someone correct me if I'm wrong here though.
NOTE: Please don't just start buffing the paint off of your neck with steel wool now, people use a specific "grade" and I'm not positive which one it is, I believe it's 0000.
No problem, but in the event you consider doing something like that, please consult someone more knowledgable than myself. A great deal more if at all possible .

be happy... i havent worn through the finish on my epi sg in the 7 years that i have it..
there is a post by zerberus, that explains in a crash course how to sand off the finish off the guitarneck without any hassle (and witha couple of sore muscles) still have to do it though..
it was something like start with 600 grade sandpaper and work yourself to 1500, then make a wet sand with 2000 grade and then a dry sand.. then steel wool to finish it off and then a slight coat of tung oil to seal it. Zakk's necks are raw. imo, oil finished necks and bare raw necks feel the best and are the fastest too
This is just a guess but it looks like the SG may have been on a rubber guitar stand. Rubber eats through Nitro finish. Check the bottom of the body for stand marks too.
