I threw the screw poles from a 490R I had laying round gathering dust into my TB-12 on John's advice (thanks bro)- defintely tames the high end, also seems to give a looser feel to it (thru my setup) and emphasis on the growl. Try it, if you don't like it, it's easy eonugh to restore it to original

I thought in mine,that it removed some highend,beefed up the overall tone,and just made the pickup seem stronger or warmer....It's a quick and easy mod to an already great pickup...At 10k it's a perfect hotter style PAF type of pickup....The Dimarzio Fred is very very similar and I use em both...Both are A5 and rated for 10k with allen screws...The Fred has mis-matched bobbins and it has more harmonics though..

Is it posssible that slug pole pieces could be installed instead of the stock hex pieces. maybe the custom shop could do it?

I have thought about doing the same thing. Here is the deal. If duncan uses the same diameter slugs as gibson, they will be just a tad bit small for the hole. I am thinking you could drill out the bottom half of the coil to the diameter of the slug and the slug would stay in there then just wax pot it and it should fill the gap on the top half of the coil with wax. I really want to try it. It would be like a 59 plus.

I just recently got my first Screamin Demon and I am pretty happy with it. Wasn't quite what I expected (not sure really what I expeceted though). It replaced a BBV in my new Les Paul. Well standalone it is good but man onstage that sucker cut really well and from what I am told upfront it cut the mix far better than my A2P did. I was very surprised.

When i first hear the SD in my Seymour duncan humbuckers CD, i disliekd it because is sounded too trebly.
is is so ****ing treble !?
any recomendations to put it in a particular WOOD body!?

man, the demon isnt trebley at all from what i get from mine! try one out if you can man, its like a 75% custom, 25% invader? (anyone agree with this? it could be a useful analogy )

Let me be the one to spoil this : I ****ING HATE IT!!!
I had it originally in my alder ESP (Lynch model). When I heard it for the first time I wasn't impressed. Then when I compared it to my 11 other guitars with humbuckers (some Duncans, Some Dimarzio's, EMG) on the same amp, it was the worst sounding guitar of all. So I took it out, threw in a JB I had ,and the problem was solved. Afterwards I did try it in a few other guitars, but it always sounded better with an other quality pickup!
There is something in the top end that is overpowering the whole sound. This makes it sound very trebly and shrill. You can talk all day about screaming harmonics but I find it lacking in the lower mids department.
Sure, when you put it in a Les Paul it will sound a little better than in an alder guitar. But that same Les Paul will sound better with any other good pickup. No more Demon for me! Rest my case!

the demon is in the new faded LP right, if so it sounded great live!!! either way, please bring that guitar to the LI jam if you don't mind b/c i should have my powerball and splawn cab with me there and i want to see how a demon sounds for my style of music. that pickup has caught my eye 1000's of times but i fear it may be too bright for me...however it sounded great through your rig which tempts me even more....hmmmm

Well to be honest, the JB is not my favorite pickup (that's why I had one laying around from another guitar I took it out). But with that JB the ESP already sounded a million times better. Go figure! To be honest I find a JB a little too upper-mid spiked! Forgive me for the bad English! :smack:
