I need to build an amp, I'm so bored...

I am now looking at 18 watt kits.

I have this need to build another amp. I dont' need another amp. I don't have room for another amp. I just love building the damn things.

I might tear my Pro Reverb apart again and mod it or something. Maybe that would satisfy the urge to inhale solder fumes. :smack:

Maybe you can make just a cool preamp to stick in one of your amps effects loops? That way your making half an amp :)

Re: I need to build an amp, I'm so bored...

It's impressive that you can build an amp yourself. I commend you brother!

Okay now that I'm done sucking up, an :offtopic: question:

Can you say: convert a Super Bass Marshall head into a Super Lead Marshall head? I heard they're the same head, just different cap values.
Or say: can you install a master volume mod on a marshall head?

Re: I need to build an amp, I'm so bored...

hehe, I need to build one too:)

I build a P1extreme from ax84.com - that was fun. It was the first big thing I build and had no problems. Now I want to integrate the amp into a rack unit and give it more channels so I can use it as a preamp.

What amp did you build? Did you try any moddings?
I also like the idea of doing a FX-pedal...

In july/august I have some more free time and can build a small (5 or 18Watt) tubeamp. If anybody is interested just drop me a PM...

If you want a challange, build a Trainwreck from scratch

The difference between a Super bass and a Super lead is very small

That's more a Jeff Seal proposition on the mastervolume thing. I could probably do a conversion if I had a layout of both. Jeff is your man for professional marshall mods. I'm just a hack that builds kit type stuff.

Re: I need to build an amp, I'm so bored...

Building amps is awsome, man im dying to build an 18 watt, mabie you should look into weber kits, I think he sells the TMB one which is suposed to sound realy ballsy. Im gonna build one after my 6v6 Marshall master volume copy...

Re: I need to build an amp, I'm so bored...

I've built a 5e3 Tweed Deluxe. Sounds great. Built a 5F4 Tweed Super, didnt' like the 2x10 config, so I turned it into a 5E5A Tweed Pro 1x15. Much better config for my ears. I converted a 68 first year silverface back to Blackface specs. that was a lot of fun. There in lies some potential for hacking around with the "normal channel" non reverb side. I think I might try to get some Marshall preamp thing working on that channel. I'm going to search for some schematics to see what I can do. Maybe give Dr. Seal a call. He's probably got some ideas I could try.

An 18 watt Marshall looks like a lot of fun. Then again, Two Rock is selling a cabinet, chassis and transformers for their Trainwreck clone. just that though. YOu have to come up with your own pots, board, etc. to complete a build. They won't even give you a schematic. I'm sure their trannies are killer, but for 500 bucks, I can get a complete kit from Weber for an 18 watt or a JTM 45. Complete with speakers!

For all of you wanting an amp, if you buy a mission or a weber kit, I'd be happy to put it together for you in my spare time. I just love this wacky stuff.

On the subject of selling them... I just can't seem to let them go once I build one for myself. Each has such redeeming qualities to it. Jeremy is interested in buying my Tweed Deluxe, but teh amp just sounds so killer. hard to let go. And I'm running out of room.

Where can I find these kits your talking about ......I'd love to build an amp.....................Joe

Re: I need to build an amp, I'm so bored...

I think building that 18 watt amp would be a blast. I've pondered the idea myself but I think I'd be getting in over my head. I think you'd have fun with that thing.

Re: I need to build an amp, I'm so bored...

I've always thought about doing on of those kits sometime. I have a good friend who likes electronic stuff and plays harmonica so maybe him and I could build some kind of tweed kit. I'd have to read up a lot on safety and I'd need some kind of step by step. Installing pickups is the most experience I have with a soldering iron though.

Scott, what kit would you recommend for me and my friend to do? I think an 18 watt would be cool as well, but I think a tweed might be easier. A deluxe would be cool cause I'd be able to use that with a band but it might be too difficult to build for an extreme beginner in electronics like me!
