I played a JVM212 today. Wow.

All channels have VERY useable sounds. It really is quality and above all, sounds good at low volumes too! Unlike 800s in my experience for instance.
The amp has more gain than anyone would ever need. And I do include death/black/whatever metallers. It really can go HEAVY.
The clean sound is very versatile (eh you get about 3 different cleans) so all your bases are covered from country to blues.
Only niggles: some channel sounds involve a tiny increase/decrease in volume and the amp is noisy on the OD2 channel.

But overall it's way worth its asking price. It really sounds beautiful.

YOU SAID NIGGLES!! wedgie time

Anyway is this theeeeeeeeeeee Vintage Modern 2x12? Does it totally rock like we were all hoping?

Re: I played a JVM212 today. Wow.

I think he means the JVM410C which is the combo version of the 4 channel head. The Vinage Modern combo is the 2266

This looks thing looks awesome. What is a guesstimated price on these things?

Street price is $2149. List is $3000

Marshall really has a knack for creating stupid model numbers for their amps, like the 1959, 1987, and now this 2-12 combo called a 410. :smack:

Funny you mentioned that, i was thinking the same thing while I was searching for it. I was like, "WTF, it's a 4x10? Oh wait, maybe not, wtf?"

Re: I played a JVM212 today. Wow.

Something else: this combo had a SCARY amount of bass.
But it never got muddy nor sounded overly busy. That's also due to the guitar I played through it though (a 86 Kramer Stagemaster, my baby).
But aside from the noise I was VERY impressed.

Re: I played a JVM212 today. Wow.

i saw the head version for this amp yesterday... they have the head but not the cab... the JVM series cabs have Greenbacks!

I didn't try it out but i guess i'll have too... the store was too busy

Re: I played a JVM212 today. Wow.

I dont know why they would put greenbacks in those amps. I know they are meant for everything from very clean to death metal stuff, but I would expect the majority of the people buying it to use it for the real heavy stuff. So I would think the cabs come with some heavy duty speakers like in the mode 4 cabs but better....

Anyway, +1 on Marshall's wierd ass naming scheme. There was a review posted on this amp on the Marshall site from a guitar magazine and it was absolutely rave. It was like 5 stars all the way across the board, sounded too good to be true. I wanna try this amp out for kicks, I always had a thing for the TSL amps for just rocking out with my metal friends, but then I always go back to the blues and jazz.

Re: I played a JVM212 today. Wow.

Yeah i might get flamed for this but i think Marshall kinda sucks nowadays.

I totally agree that the Marshall sound is what almost all great tones were made from. But that was a long time ago.

I havent seen any innovation on their part at all.
up until a few years ago they offered crappy new models like the DSL's and TSL's. After that, after seeing many boutique makers coming out for years with Plexi models etc... Marshall finally woke up..........and they delivered the 'Handwired' series. At crazy prices with ZERO innovation on them. The boutique makers were taking the older Marshalls and Fenders and seriously coming up with great new designs and sounds ( Bogner, Diezel, VHT, and tons others).

Up until now that Marshall finally decided to spend more on R&D instead of on Marketing.
To be fair, this is not all bad if market share is what you are going for. And for this i think Marshall did really well.
As for being a leading innovator and trend setter they IMHO did pretty much nothing.

These new amps to tell you the truth i havent played yet. The 2466 ( or whatever its called) and the vintage modern line is such a direct ripoff of the VHT deliverance it isnt even funny.

I really wonder how these things are under the hood as well. When boutique guys make their amps they use top notch stuff. When Marshall comes out with newer models, when you look under the hood it is usually dissapointing.

You might say that boutique makers have a different market share than what Marshall goes for. Maybe, but not with all of their line, plus IMHO Fender offers much better quality from their custom shop amps.

In a nutshell Marshall hasnt surprised me since 1969.

Sorry if i rained on anyones parade. I just really dont get the hype of Marshalls. Yeah its a cool name but the sound is missing anymore.

IMHO as always

Re: I played a JVM212 today. Wow.

I dont think the Deliverance and the Vintage modern (based on its clips) sound alike at all. Though they both sound really good. VHTs are much drier and crisp than Marshalls, and don't sparkle in the top end (more of a slice).

And I don't know for sure...but I think just the Vintage modern combo has greenbacks, not the multichannel 410 thingy? 2 greenbacks cannot handle 100 watts

Edit: yup looks like a V30 and a 12H (says Celestion Vintage And Celestion Heritage on the website)
