I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

After much experimentation with everything from LOW to HIGH power pickups, a couple of Magnet swaps in a Custom (5, 8), a few brands etc etc

I have settled on the CC as the best bridge model, though I would fear mud in a LP.

Here is the thing - I really think you have to mess with the screws and push the CC close to the strings to make the highs cut a bit. Who wants that much butter on their toast anyway? I don't! High cholesterol. I have found the CC thru even MIDDY amps can sound GREAT. I usually keep my mids flat anyway.

I usually like balanced sounds, and balanced pickups. However, vs anything I have used - the CC wings the classic Marshall tone in a box (or pickup) category. Almost any amp instantly has some ballsy mids thanks to this pickup. Leads always slice thru yet the top end has sponge, and the lows are sweet and loose. If I need the lows tighter I can use pedals or HIGH HIGH gain amps. Thru ultra gain, this pickup still has some vintage character.

I have never been pleased with the clean up on this pickup. Though it does a nice twang thru a Bassman, I didn't buy it for cleans. I shockingly think you CAN shred with this pickup (not THE best choice, but you get me here, right?). It battles the meanest drummers with ease. It was sweet over a country band, though a tad thick - but that's how I like it. It does a gain-y blues. Basically, I see the CC as an improved JB. (In fact, I want a B Moore Guitar, and if I get one, I will swap the JB bridge for a CC, me thinks)

Either way, the mid signature is so Marshall-esque that I feel I always have a freak nasty tone anywhere I go. I'd rather be nasty than friendly - I play rock with this pup. If I wanted smooth jazzy or 50s chuck berry tones - yes, I would look elsewhere.

If I want an unbalanced and snarly pickup to do some damage with, this is my choice for anything exc nu metal (like I would even care).

Its my absolute favorite pickup as well, and with a keeley ds-1 you can shred with this pickp and play very articulate runs, or with my analogman ts-808 I can play blues or fusion. I do like the cleans expecially because you can really play leads clean with this pickup. The spongy bass takes a little while to take care of with eq's but after words its awesome

Re: I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

Sounds like you would like the Rio Grande BBQ! :) Sounds like that with tighter bass.

Re: I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

Welcome to the club. I have two CC's myself. One is on a Les Paul and through a Marshall, it's tone heaven. (clips available) You now know why I've been saying it's spec'd as high output but doesn't behave like one. Heck, I think it's more medium output actually.

So those clips on your JCM 900 were all done with the CC? Sounds great! Bass sounds tighter than expected.

Thanks. Yes, the ones on my JCM900 MkIII page were done with my CC loaded Les Paul. The bass rides right on the edge of being too tight and being too loose, which I like. It gives it a nice spongey feel to it. The closed-back cab helps too.

Re: I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

Sold mine, did not like the feel of it, I liked the sound though, but I felt disconnected with it, tried it on a few of my guitars, same result, cool sound but it was like I was somewhere else when I played with it?
Lol strange description:D

Re: I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

Thanks again Erik, I may have to try the CC! Right now I want to try the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Hot!

Re: I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

I can't say anything negative about the CC. My favorite Duncan humbuckers are the C-5, CC, and Seth Lover. I usually just decide which of those sounds best in a particular guitar, and my decision is 1 outta 3.

I'm thinking that my McCarty w/C-5/59 is sounding just a tiny bit harsh, so I may do like Evan Skopp did in his PRS and put a CC in it. It'll be CC-59. I tend to like A5 or A3 neck pickups......A2 gets woolier than I want for a neck.

Everyone comes around eventually! And putting the poles up a bit on the treble side is definetly the trick. And there's no mud from a Paul?!?!?!? Can't see how you got that....

I back it off some. No more mud. Actually, there's no mud with it closer but it's definitely clearer with it backed off a little.

PLEASE CONTINUE THE RIO GRANDE and CC comparisons

I rather enjoy pondering the change! IF I GO RIO BBQ do I NEED TO GO TX IN THE NECK?

Yes please continue the BBQ / CC comparison. Would you say the BBQ is as full as a CC with more or tighter bass?

Re: I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

If I had a Les Paul with only a bridge pup, ala the esquire type concept, I'd have a CC in it. I concur.

I like the set of Antiquities as my overall humbucker set favorite, but an A2P in the neck and a CC in the bridge would be my 2nd favorite set.

Re: I RELENT - THE CC is my new FAVE bridge model

59'/A2P/PG in the neck with a CC bridge is an awesome LP combo. Your call on the neck tweek. And if you aren't afraid to use both pups on and futz with the volumes, you can get an infinite variety of very cool sounds...I never used both on until I got the CC. Now its like I have a 72 way switch!

Seems like a McCarty you would want the added bass of the C-5. The best to date I have heard in a Mccarty is the WCR Fillmore.
