I take back what I've said about Peavey

I've gone on record before saying that I hate virtually every product Peavey has ever made. Yesterday, I got to mess around with the JSX and I can't lie, it was a pretty impressive amp - much much better than what I was expecting. Great cleans, fat crunch, good leads... everything a modern guitarist needs. I did find it was a bit saturated at lower volumes, but with a bit of volume it opened up nicely. I'm not sure what they go for, but the amp is probably very good for the money. The JSX is definitely a step in the right direction for Peavey :fing2:

I've used the Delta Blues amp before, and liked it, although it was for the sound at volume, not the cleans.

Re: I take back what I've said about Peavey

Well, at the LA amp show, honestly, the Peavey JSX had me the MOST impressed. It sounded great, awesome price - and darn I forget his name, but the guy who heads development had a long chat with me. I would love to hear the FX loop.

I would probably be pretty ok with owning a JSX. I have sung in bands that had 5150s, and more often than not, after a while, the tone signature of that amp irritates me (though I am sure the player had something to do with it as well.)

He also showed me the Omniac Jerry Donahue model, and WOW that was the best Tele-style I have ever played. Did everything from a literal hollow body tone to Les Paul and Tele, in one.

Lots of good stuff from Peavey. Usually reliable too.

If I had a 5150, I would likely get a bias mod and some updates from someone like FJA Mods. It would be nice to be able to adjust the bias to get a bit more warmth.

I like the delta blues, the one with the 15" speaker. I think it does great cleans.

Then again I also like the old Special 130, which I think is one of the best amps they ever made, tube or solid state!

i like peaveys stuff alot. most of it sounds good, and good reliability too.

Re: I take back what I've said about Peavey

Wow, that's pretty amazing because I've tried to tell alot of people on this forum about the JSX and either got no or negative feedback. And with JJ tubes in the pre- amp, it will do metal quite well.:fing25: :laugh2:

Re: I take back what I've said about Peavey

The JSX is far and away their most impressive amp in the stable. The XXX is cool, but I like the JSX's tone better, it seems less abrasive and more organic, maybe not as good for metal, but I dig it.

Re: I take back what I've said about Peavey

Sorry to butt into your thread but you guys seem to know your Peavey. I have a thread going now about the Peavey Mace 2x12. I just got one for free that needs some work so I have no idea what it sounds like. I know very little other than Skynard used them and they they are supposedly very, very loud.

I am looking for a nice clean amp to go along with my JCM 900. Is this amp anywhere near the right amp for the job? I'd love some bluesy Fender-ish tone but I get the feeling that the Mace won't have it.

Rock on.
