I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

Haha, you guys are funny! There was a definite diff in tones; slight but different. And I definitely would not slam DiMarzio's cuz I think they fit my dream tones better than most Duncan's - cheap or not, love 'em. Either way, the blue one's retired - just got it cuz the site only had an F spaced in blue; tone is tone, right?

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

I've got a PAF Pro..Never been impressed, maybe it's just been in the wrong guitar or just crap?? I have a strat style with a poplar body...In both neck and bridge, never liked it....

Anyone have experience with these.....Maybe there is something to this.....Personally I've always liked Duncans. I dunno, maybe this PAF Pro would rock in my LP.

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

If I was #2 in the world I'd wannabe #1.

Fair enough :beerchug:

DiMarzio and Duncan are obviously competitors in that they both make pickups, but their product lines couldn't be more different. It almost seems that they're not even really trying to compete with one another, as they each do what they do quite well, and go for different markets.

Oh well, I like both, use both, and will continue to do so.

+1

Both have top notch email support as well. Steve Blucher (sp?), the man who designed many DMZ pups, has answered many of my email questions himself. Many companies would do well emulating the customer support of SD and DMZ. PRS has phenomenal customer service too.

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

Yeah, Dimarzio has great email support. From what I've heard about SD, so do they - haven't needed to email them yet.

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

IMO, DiMarzio makes some great stuff; as do a lot of other pickup makers. My remark about color was meant in jest and not a slam. Heck, the pickups in my Y2D are not only DiMarzios, but they're purple too...

But, if you really want some science put to this, think about this. You're playing in the sun. pickups with black bobbins absorb more radiant heat than do lighter colored bobbins. That might have an effect on the tone; but the effect might not even be noticed....

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

I am not going to bash Dimarzio, but I have always prefered the Tone, build quality, and customer service that Seymour Duncan provides.

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

I use both and will continue to do so. Actually I have only one Duncan equiped guitar the others have Dimarzios.

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

Even with excellent quality control, theres still always a possibility that the two pickups were on either end of their acceptable tolerances.

I absolutely love the Dimarzio Evo that I had in my Ibanez, and in fact I will soon put it back in since the SD Custom that I replaced it with (just to try, since I already had that pickup) doesn't match up as well with that guitar. I'm loyal to SD mostly because of the quality of character they display in each of their employees, but having said that we can all be a little insane about pickups, after all they've been around for so long and we're still paranoid that a big company like Dimarzio can't make them right.

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

both companies pickups have a definate inner sound to them that all models of each share. I have always thought duncans have that round more woody quality for the most part, where dimarzio has a more low mid brick to the head sound. Both very good.

Re: I think DiMarzio's are cheap!

this thread sucks. dimarzio makes some awesome pups and they've been in history with the greatest of them all - maiden, yjm, etc... duncan is awesome but i don't think you can put one above the other. they both offer different things.

The EJ Custom says otherwise as do Blue Velvets.

Same here on all counts. Well, almost. One of my Strats has Fender pickups, the other 2 have DiMarzios. My Kramer has the Duncan. Next year I should have another Duncan loaded axe.
