I think I hate my Marshall

Re: I think I hate my Marshall

Most Marshalls have the preamp tubes overdriving the output tubes. Output distortion = U GOTTA CRANK IT

almost forgot to say, that there is nothing wrong with SS amps. some of them are actually really good.
i think that there are good SS and good tube amps. just because it is tube doesnt mean it is good sounding.

i just think that too many of us have got caught in the tube amp thingy and it doesnt really apply to all.
yes overall they do sound better than SS.
but for someone in bedroom which then has to get a good cab, then an attenuator etc... maybe sometimes a SS amp is a better deal.

i remember a friend of mine that had one of those SS Marshall jcm800's and he is an awesome player. he had a bunch of pedals on it and made it sound like Stevie Ray, Van Halen......

the funny thing is that when he sold this and got a rack/tube setup he sounds almost exaclty the same ( as when he had the SS) when he plays the stuff in the bedroom!!

it is so true.

I use different amps for different reasons..... Solid state Fender amp at home-(as well as a small berhinger POS- but at a bedroom level it has that ACDC 4x12 tone)... I have 2 small low watt combos, a Fender 65 Deluxe and a Classic 30 for small jams and small gigs.... then i have a huge set up considing of a 5150 stack, and a Classic 50 head with a HS 2 Head switcher so i can A/B between the 2 heads into one cab.... add to that i now have a 50 watt JCM 800 head and a small Marshall cab... i'm looking for a 4x12 Marshall cab for cheap to go with the 800 head...

point is i don't use my tube stuff that much around the house.. saddly it sits collecting dust until once in a while i can really use it... but i have all bases for all gigs and jams covered!
