what does tube rattle sound like? I have a deluxe reverb ri and when i hit certain notes I get this kinda high pitched fast rattle. I thought that it was my speaker but im not so sure. if any of you guys have any ideas i would appreciate your input.

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

very well could be...what tubes are you using?

Some preamp tubes are bad about it and to be honest I have not tried a current production 6L6 in a long time that didn't rattle!:smack: :yell:

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

I;ve only had it for about a month and a half so it has the stock tubes that fender puts in them, so theyre probably groove tubes.

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

the sovtek el 84's that came with my laney used to do that..

i think it's probably tube rattle..
mine used to shake like crazy when i hit the low g..
maybe certain frequencies shake that bottle real bad

so i replaced them, and it seems to be gone..

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

ya, its annoying considering i just bought the amp. how do you go about finding it? start playing and pokin your head in the back of the amp i guess?

same thing happend in my vc-100, replaced those. the ygoslavian ecc83 that come with most laneys are crap, especially in combos.

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

well i went over to the fender forum and did a search and it sounds like to me from what some other guys are describing it sounds like its tube rattle. they were talking about putting some kind of tube baffles on them. i guess they are some kind of o-rings or something that fit around the tubes. have any of you guys heard of these?

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

You could try and locate some tube dampeners....silicon based rubber bands that go around the tube.

I talked with the owner of Matchless, Phil Jamison, about this topic once, and he said to buy a tube of silicon glue, and make a stripe around the power tubes or rectifier tube. He said it won't burn or make a bad smell. It's resistant to heat.

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

so the silicon glue won't melt and how big of a stripe do you need to put on them? i would think you wouldnt want to put too much on because i would think that it would trap some heat. is this a common occurence or is it just poor construction by fender? Ive only had this thing for about a month and a half.

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

The problem with a lot of combo amps is that the speakers are right next to the tubes, sharing the same enclosure. The internal parts of the tube vibrate against the glass. The silicon stripe around is something I've never tried, but I've heard about it from several reliable sources. I've seen that stuff at the 99 cent store. I guess if it doesn't help, you can always scrape it off with a razor blade. It's worth a shot.

Re: I think I have tube Rattle?

ive seen those tube o rings too, actually Genz Benz uses them to hold the preamp tubes down. apparently they work
