I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

Boogeyman of Tone
Ok, I love the sound of Les paul's bridge bucker.. but im not so hot on thick neck bucker tone... add that to the fact I can't work with the control layout and don't really like the shorter scale.

I love the feel of telecasters (neck and body shape).. cep't im not 100% convinced their tone is for me

I love positions 2 + 4 on a strat...

So - the logical step would be to get a

 TeleStratoGib

So I'm just asking if this is a good idea?

Basically here's the specs i'm looking at.

Mahogany body, flamed maple cap (yes or no... im guessing it will add some brightness and clarity to the tone?)

H/S/S configuration.

String through hardtail but possibly vintage or wilks trem (no floyds! :fing25: )

A pretty hefty maple neck and a rosewood board.

It will have one tone and one volume pot with a pull push for a coil split on the bridge, and a 5 way selector switch - set out a la my main strat -

crap picture but hey...

and i kinda like this colour too

Ok tell me if the idea is good or not :D

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

sounds interesting....it'd be cool to see it done

by the way, what kind of tele in the picture?

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

btw the tele in that pic is made by the same guy i'm gonna order it from.

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

H-S-S is a pretty good layout, sounds like you've got most of it figured out. It's hard to assume from the name what body shape you're looking at. So what's this thing going to look like?

Sounds to me like you're building a HSS mahogany strat with a tele-like neck. Am I on there? If so, I think it'd be cool.

God, never mind, you're going for a Tele shape. Man, I gotta learn to read. :smack:

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

Sounds nice, and the colour is awesome.

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

Sounds like a good idea. Also check out G&L Deluxe Teles and strats. They look a lot like your picture and play and sound great. They come with JB/59 US Duncans.

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

They're hard to find over here, but the control layout is very important to me, i find i hit the volume knob on normal strats (i had mine on my strat placed slightly further away for that reason) and on tele's they seem too far out of the way

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

great idea!!!!!!

i love the tele shape(as well as the strat) and love the H-S-S pickup config!!

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

Gahhh!

I've been thinking about this all day and I'm hyped up about it now..

I'm going to see the guy who builds em either this saturday or next wednesday depending on which day i can get a lift up.

The question which is bugging me most is trem or not. I know if I have all hardtails I'll want a trem axe but at the same time if i get a trem I'll end up not using it... dammit :argh:

There'll probably be a thread in the pickup room in the next few weeks too :laugh2:

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

I think its a killer idea. You've basically just described a higher quality version of the Peavey Generation that I just bought. Its a Tele-style, string-through, hardtail, with an HSS configuration. Only, this one is basswood.

Its quickly becoming my favorite guitar - even before being "Duncanized". ;)

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

Basswood isnt a bad wood for all the rap it gets.

I think I'll make this axe stringthrough hardtail since i never use a trem even when i have one..

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

sounds very similar to the tele i want built...except i want H-H...?!

i say go for it man!!!

Re: I think I know what my next guitar is!!!

H/H tele's are great, cept i already have a H/H guitar I love to bits.

The Ibanez's look like they're going.. :D
