I think I might want a new cab. Suggestions?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I have a Mesa Stiletto head (50/100 watt Marshall type...)

I currently play through an MX212 Marshall cab - the cheapest of all Marshall cabs. Personally, I think it sounds freaking great. That said...what would you suggest?

Some considerations:
1. I DO NOT WANT a full stack
2. I am not sure that I want a half stack - but convince me. I prefer slant.
3. If I get a 2x12 it could be stacked for 2 x 2x12.
4. I like 2x12 portability. More than loud enough
5. Remember - I do love me some Marshall sounds. However - Mesa makes some good stuff. Also Peavey, Randall, etc...open to anything.

What might you suggest?

See if you can find an old Carvin with the 12M-70's.

V30s work great with your head, the rhythm guitar in my band plays it through the ppc212OB and it is sweet sounding

Re: I think I might want a new cab. Suggestions?

If you like V30s, Mesa and Bogner both have 2x12 OS cabs that are convincingly "big" sounding.

One thing about 2x12s is that they're kinda low to the ground, so if you're just standing in front of it, you won't hear it properly unless you've got it on an angled stand (which will, in turn, mean not putting your head right on top of your cab). 4x12s are a pain to move, but in some ways, they really are more practical. If you want to step up to a 4x12, there's some good shoot-outs on the internet to help; here's the first that comes to mind for me: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgMVJZQaJHBf-TtHvk9Q8ERXuBsQK7rnM

Just get a vertical 2x12 with the top speaker angled. Problem solved.
Even better if the bottom speaker is closed and the top open.

Um....

Something the head would actually fit on. Stage use required.

Re: I think I might want a new cab. Suggestions?

I have a Orange 2x12 PPC, it is as good as my slant Recto cab, loud and big sounding with great low end a response. No wheels though on mine and it's pretty heavy. No advantage to it in my configuration.

The best cabs for rock that I've personally heard are the Bogner Uberkabs with 2 V30's, and 2 G12T75's. They have wheels. I'd love to try one with V30's and Golds.

Whatever it is, get wheels.

Brand new, free shipping, v30s , extra big and tall for a 212 (24.5" on feet) with a 12" depth to compensate so it won't be too bassy, and good 3/4" birch-ply on all 6 sides.

Also you can still option the ohms and the back-style.

Then for less $ these are an amazing value. These are not as tall but they're deeper.

If you put rubber feet on one side, the cab's upside still will have over an inch to spare on each side of the Stiletto's rubber feet, and the tolex Avatar uses grips like glue to the rubber feet. My Avatar-sig cab is the exact same dimensions and my rectifier's feet are placed identical to the Stiletto's.

IMO they sound better horizontal, but when you get old it's nice to have the head up higher.
I especially like the tone of the sig-cab(k100) vertical combined with my mesa212 horizontal.

2x12 x2 stack. My top cab is a newer Marshall 1936. The bottom cab with the JCM900 badge is a 90's 1936. Identical except the older cab's speakers are fully broken in. The guy that sold me the newer cab said he never pushed it hard, so I suspect after a few months of playing it will really come to life. The bottom cab is warmer sounding and top seems brighter, I'm Guessing it's broken in they'll sound more similar.

The larger Mesa 2x12 is a nice sounding cabinet and common enough that a used one can be found. Mesa has a 2x12 slant as well, but never tried it.

I have had two 1936 cabs and thought they were too bright. YMMV

Re: I think I might want a new cab. Suggestions?

Dimensions wise, the Marshall 2061CX extension cab, it's taller than a horizontal 2×12, but shorter and wider than most vertical 2×12s, it's 25.9" wide so your head should fit without overhang and has an angle front. Downside is it's only 60w. If a little bit of overhang on the edges doesn't bother you, then the Mesa Rectifier Vertical 2x12 is a good cab to look at, but your head will overhang by about 1" on each side.
