I want to shorten my guitar cables...

So I bought a set of mono-shielded 1/4'' phone plugs.
Now before I cut my cables in half, is there anything I should know? I'm thinking simply cut the in half, leave some wire naked, solder them to the plugs, try them, and if there's no sound I inverse the wires. Is it that simple?

Re: I want to shorten my guitar cables...

With guitar cables, this inversing thing should work, as there's nothing high voltage in them... with a speaker cable, I wouldn't do that.

Re: I want to shorten my guitar cables...

I'll make it simple for ya. The inner shielded wire goes to the tip of the plug, the outer shielding braid goes to the sleeve. Just undo the other end of the cable and take a look at what's soldered where.

I'll make it even simpler...Buy new cables:banana:

(Just playin') This was my 100th post (i wanted to make it before I left!)

:jester: That was smart!

Yep I did it. Sounds just fine, no problems doing it. Cheers guys. There indeed was no catch.

Re: I want to shorten my guitar cables...

cut em, outer shielding is ground, inner wire is signal, simple as that =/
