yes i hear ya but surely if I connect all the earths together on that board and to that spare prong to the left of R1 wouldn't I have a problem?

Or do you mean P5 our to the C1 and R1 prong?

Yes No

Essentially you have two circuits One is the power amp with the input with a signal + [ C1 ] and a ground - [ the other terminal ]
The output from the other circuit [ Preamp ] is at P5-out + [ Signal Out ] and at ground. - [ you need a return path ]
Yes, P5 Out goes to the input signal pin C1 and the two grounds are tied together. [ R1 prong?/ same thing ]

Remember this is a diagramatic representration. It could all be placed on one circuit board and a common ground rail used for all grounding points in the circuit. That's what I would do but you could make it as two separate boards.

You might want to try drawing a layout of the parts on a board. They don't look like a schematic. You'll need to work out how to lay it out.
If you look at the circuits you'll find all the inputs and outputs are grounded at the negative side of the signal.

delve deeper and explain, I don't get this class of circuit type stuff, lol. if its built and works like it should then its good for me! lol

Got ya a fair bit more now.

I would prefer to do it as separate boards, that way if something goes pop in an awkward place or their is something major that's gone tits up on on of the circuits I can just pull the board out then pop it back in.

The lightweight stuff you see in MarkBass and many of the new light bass amps is Class D. It's a digital power amp. There are probably fewer DIY schematics floating around, but it's good technology that can sound great when used well. I know you don't want a pre-built amp but there are some pre-made project amp boards that you can wrap the rest of your amp around. (still needs power supply, preamp, ins/outs, etc.)

it's a possibility.

I also googled it in the meantime as well to try and get some knowledge and it seems that class D amps are quite powerful, I only want something for my room not 300W to blow the windows out with lol

There are little 50 watt kits. In fact the small ones I've experimented with are 2x15 or 2x25 watts. Most of them can't bridge to mono, but you could build a "stereo" cabinet with 2 drivers fed directly by each half if necessary. What's nice about that arrangement is you can include an 1/8" "MP3" input, for tracks and what not.

time for an update where I am:

- Square 1.

At the moment, I am toying with the idea of butchering my Fender frontman 15G into a head, making a few mods to the diodes and stuff and then building a 1x15 cab for it, I have played through it with the bass in a guitar amp format but I didn't force the amp and it was for about 3 mins and it sounded really cool.

The other options are:

- Buy a kit
- think about tubes
- get a guitar amp like the frontman and butcher it
- Build a SS DIY amp

Hacking an existing amp is exactly that but it is a platform to start with.

Tubes involve much higher voltages than SS amps and if your new to this, it may be more practical and safer than a valve amp.

None the less, I bought and built a valve amp kit when I was 15, but I had already been playing with soldering irons and wires and valves and high voltage for about five years. It was my only option, transistors hardly existed back then. [67/68]

I'll investigate kits a bit more too. there's not a lot coming up on my Ebay which is dirt cheap or need repair or something, otherwise I would just mod that.
