Ibanez Destroyer DT200

Got the chance to pick up a Korean 2004 Destroyer for a pretty good price, just wondered if anyone has one & what they are like. It looks a lot like the one Adrian Smith used to play & being a big Maiden fan i was drawn to the guitar.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

Does the DT200 have a bolt-on or set neck?

I've been wanting to add a decent Destroyer to my stable for awhile. If it's good enough for EVH... Here's looking forward to pictures and stories from you.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

The one i'm looking at has a bolt on like this.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

I picked one up over the summer, popped in a Demon/A2P combo in it and it sounds fantastic. I still haven't gotten around to tweaking it to my preferred specs, but it plays fairly well already. The neck is a little beefier than the wizard style necks, nice and comfortable for me.

Cool, if you don't mind can I ask what you paid for it?

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

$125 or something like that, with a case. It has a couple cracks in the finish, but no damage to the actual guitar itself.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

Do you mean one of these?

I actually picked this up at the local GC for about $120 a couple months ago. It plays really nice, and it sounds pretty good too. It was beat to $#!+ when I got it, but it's very happy with a light set of strings. I'm not sure if the pups are original, but the surrounds don't match so I assume not.

I've been drooling over some of the flamed Destroyers on eBay recently, and have apparently been suppressing the memory that I already own this guitar... :eek1:

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

i never liked the tiny ones, i forget what theyre called but i believe the above one is a smaller one. but my dt420 MIJ is an amazing friggin guitar. heavy as hell, but worth every ounce and then some. perfect for old maiden tones too

Ibanez has the Mikro line out now that are advertised as being smaller "for younger players." The GDTM21 is probably what you are thinking of. (See the tiny amount of space between the pickups on this one compared to my DT200, above. Of course, part of that difference is because the Mikro is 24 fret vs. 22 for the DT.

I wouldn't describe the DT200 as being big and heavy, but it sure feels to be full scale to me.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

So you got me wondering what model mine really is, so I went poking around. Based on the number of switches and knobs, hard tail, location of output jack, and the generic "Ibanez" headstock logo, it looks like mine is probably a 2001 DTX120-CA.

The specs from the catalog scan say it has a basswood body (as compared to mahogany in many Destroyer models) which probably explains why it doesn't weigh a ton.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

Those are the ones I was referring to, the dtx. They made those and the icx, both are tiny bodies compared to their gigantic destroyer and iceman counterparts, which happen to be my numbers #2 and 1, respectively

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

Ah, you're right. I can see that the tail on the DTX is shorter than on your typical Destroyer. The flyer I linked even mentions the new compact design of the ICX and DTX models.

Thanks to this thread I've been playing the DTX quite a bit the past couple days, and I'm pleasantly surprised by it. I cannot shred to save my life, but my fingers are a lot faster on that neck than I can usually manage.

You, sir, have good taste in guitars! An Iceman is definitely on my bucket list.

So many guitars, no two the same...

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

Oh I'm by no means saying the dtx or icx are bad guitars, I've just always been a fan of bigger bodied guitars, explorers, v's, semis, the like

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

Destroyers are so much cooler than that Xiphos nonsense and the Mick Thompson shape, but they've gone and discontinued it again.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer DT200

I had an Ibanez Detroyer DT-555 Phil Collen model way back when. Set in neck. It played like a dream. Pickups sounded great, action was perfect, Kahler tremolo was perfect. I kick my self for letting it get away. Pure 80's metal sound. It was surprisingly well balanced. Would someday love to find another.
