Re: ibanez jems

Not sure about the livewires, but the evos always seemed bright to me. If you want to shred, nothing does that better than Jackson/Charvel. If you don't mind getting something used, you can get a nice U.S. model for well under a grand. If you just want to try one out, the early 90's professional series were on par with the U.S. mades of the time. They are a great bang for the buck. You could get an early 90's Jackson/Chravel for $300-$500 depending on model. Amazing players.

Re: ibanez jems

Have you looked into other Ibanez guitars? The SZ-series are sweet guitars (not only saying that b/c I have one, I did my shopping ;)). They work exceptionally well for heavy and light music alike. For example you can get things like Pantera, or Slipknot out of one, and most Jazz too, with the EQ set right. Try one if you haven't b4 you make a choice.

oh btw, the price is around $700 Canadian

Re: ibanez jems

why a JEM my friend? have you personally auditioned a JEM? if it helps, Hate Eternal's Erik Rutan plays one...

i'm an ibanez fan but i can't bring myself to invest in a JEM. i guess i'm more into a guitar which has no blueprints from a certain endorser. anyway the JEMs are nice...

do shop around because the range of ibanez today are vast. do not limit yourself to a conventional model. i'd advice you not to invest in a boutique guitar only to have a set of active pickups in it. just my 2c... :)

Re: ibanez jems

Or a nice RG? The higher end prestiges are still a lot cheaper than a JEM, and still have great hardware and finishes...

Re: ibanez jems

You can't use Livewire pickups with passive pickups so far as i know...

Also, the JEM can get heavy, Vai just puts it through a medium-heavy amp.

Re: ibanez jems

The Ibanez RG550/RG570 is almost identical to the Jem models, but without the fancy fretboard art, monkey grip handle, Dimarzio pickups, and much extra cost. They basically have the same body and neck wood, hardware, and Edge tremolo system. I have a RG550 and I really dig it. By the way, the RG550/RG570 or the Jem models can be plenty heavy enough for whatever you want to play. Even if you bought a Jem, you may still need to change pickups to get what you are looking for. I recommend the older Japanese made RGs as opposed to the newer Korean made ones.

I second this, my RG 2570 plays sounds and feels better than the jem i tried first which is why i bought it,i did swap out the pups in it but it was still way under what that jem would cost.
keep in mind a jem aint nutin but a RG with a mokey grip, dimarzio evo's, and fancy inlays

:laugh2:

Re: ibanez jems

here ya go, get a RG and put in a tone zone and a air norton then tell me it does not crush the jem :)
