Ibanez necks

Ibanez makes two different wizard necks, the Wizard and the Wizard II. What's the difference between the two? Do they have different dimensions or shapes or is it some kind of marketing ploy? Reason being I've fallen in love with two of Ibanez's new RGT42 model guitars, and the major difference between the two is the type of necks.

If I remember right, one is slightly thinner than the other?

I dunno.. Ibanez used to have the measurements up on the site for all their necks, I wonder why they took that down :/

The Wizard is slightly thinner than the Wizard II (by I think 2mm at the nut and 1mm at the 12th fret). I don't mind the Wizard as far as thin necks go, as it has a pretty comfortable C shape, but the Wizard II is horrible IMO. It's more of a D shape, which means that the center of the neck back is pretty much flat, and then the shoulders curve down to meet the edges of the fingerboard. Very uncomfortable to me, but I suggest playing a guitar that has that neck to see for yourself.

because they're idiots and they keep discontinuing their best models and taking off stuff that actually gives some info about the guitar.. they should put more pictures up too. at least one of the back of the axe (not talking about ibanez exclusively.. everybody should do it) and make them BIGGER!


but this axe. the RGT42DXFMOMGWTF is not half bad (take aside the ****ty neck) neck through. i see ibeenhad finaly came to their senses. i'd be interested to try one of these out.. swap the electronics and get a REAL floyd and i think you got a very nice axe. IMO, much better than the jem ones

Their site still has measurements for their necks, you just have to open the individual model's page.

Davey, you read my mind - I think that guitar with a pair of SD's and an OFR would be hard to beat, sonically and visually. I agree that the JEM guitars aren't too good either... I wonder what the big deal is.

They should definately post more information, dimensions, and pictures (I guess all the numetal kids don't want any of that stuff)

the big deal is that they're Vai's guitars =P

yea, more pickup information orsomething.. at least proper neck dimentions (and bigger pictures hehe)

lol, those kids just hear ibanez, fall on their knees and start to worship their GIO ... those are even worse than my $200 SG.

that t42 hasa rather nice finish too.. lavender blue. wouldnt mind having an axe in that finish (and theydont rape you with the degree of flame... it's a bit more subtle,but nice)

a big plus to them is to actually include the headstock in a matching color. many others dont do that. a small thing, but improves the looks a LOT

ah, the prestige necks are quite better.. but i dont know.. the ibanez guitars i had my hands on lacked mojo. guess they're not for me =P

Yeah, except the 320 is $2000 and the 220 is nearly $1500. Being neck-thru, I'm not interested in what the body wings are - it might as well be basswood for the light weight, since it won't affect the tone (minimal at most). For RG's, I am not a fan of natural finishes, just doesn't go with the metal vibe IMO. Also, that lavender color really just kills me - it's a beautiful thing, especially with the chrome hardware. Unless the prestige necks are worth the extra $800+, the RGT42dxfm rules fwahahaha... :smack:

They should probably shorten the model names too.

I think you'd be surprised how much the body wings affect the tone. IMO, Ibanez guitars are no different than any other brand, you get what you pay for :). Personally I'd shop used, you should be able to find some decent deals on the 42, as it's been out for a while now.

I thought that because the pickups are mounted in the maple/whatever other wood neck-thru portion, that's the only part of the body that affects the sound because the pickups only pick up the resonance and personality of that wood.

In other words, the pickups don't pick up the characteristics of the wings because they are not mounted in that type of wood.

Am I just flat out wrong or is there some middle ground here? This could be a major development here!

Yes the pickups are mounted to that wood, but the whole body resonates when you hit the strings. Different woods will resonate more/less at different frequencies, and color the tone differently. If what you said above were true, then neck material of any non-neck thru guitar wouldn't have an impact on tone either...

Also, think about a strat. The pickups aren't mounted to wood at ALL, they hang from the pickguard, yet different woods will still yield different tones.

i have a "GIO" the cheapeast axes from ibanez, it is a GRG370fm, and it has a GRG neck which is actually a Jem neck, figure it out...
but i like the wizard II, though.
