Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

Jackson has settled on lighter woods mostly at the behest of their customers who were scrawny little crackheads like Lynch and Warren D who couldn't bear the weight of an LP back when Jackson was starting out.

.......

Didn't Lynch play maple body Charvels? Warren also played Charvels. My 81 Charvel is all maple and probably weighs more than an LP.

The evolution toward lighter body woods with Charvel/Jackson came in part from their association with Alan Holdworth, and also the influence of the Floyd Rose trem on guitar tone, and therefore guitar design.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

I tend to go for Ibanez over Jackson mainly because of the necks.
Jacksons have GREAT necks.
I think Ibanez Wizard I necks are even better. The 7 string necks on Ibanez RGs (Japan made models) are pretty much the perfect neck for me.
Not too thin, not too thick, and the 16.92 inch radius (430mm) is pretty much perfect for lead playing and chording for my hands.

Yup. Looks like I done killed annudder thread!

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

I had several opportunities to sit down and play the Ibanez Xiphos and it is indeed a well made guitar and far heavier then the Jackson. Alder bodies never did a thing for me regarding Jackson's and I have owned several very pricey one's. They never stayed in the house long. Sure they are well built but every Jackson I have ever owned or played had a "cheap" feel to it due to the flyweight

The Xiphos sounded warm and massive and the few I played had a very cool flip-flop paint job

For the money, IMO the Ibanez is a better guitar but you may feel different once you actually do a side by side comparison. Both guitars play extremely nice, I give the nod to the Ibanez for the faster and slimmer neck and warmness of sound

Either way, you can't go wrong with either in that price range

Like you I have played both. the Ibanez is in my opinion a much much better guitar for the $.
Now to throw you a curve. My buddy Jon who owns Funky Munky Music in Kansas had Washburn build these
http://cgi.ebay.com/WASHBURN-333-SL...QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item58853cf12c
It is a Import 333 but has all the hardware and specs of the $3000 + dollar Dimesime Dime 3 USA. These actually stack up pretty well with the USA ST-3 Stealth I sold a few weeks ago at $4K.
These will absolutely mop the floor with both that Jackson and the Ibanez!!
Trust me guys these Funky Munky Slimers are flat KILLERS!
Jon built a new building and moved the store. To generate some cash for the move he dumped the whole lot he had Washburn custom build to his specs to the Washburn dealer who is blowing these out. These are unique custom spec guitars and when they are gone acording to what I'm hearing there will be no more of these built.
