IBANEZ OWNERS... question!

Hey guys, this is more directed to guys who have Ibanez guitars with Ibanez brand trems... any Edge Pro or Edge II or ZR Zero-Point Tremolo system.

Are they any easier to set up/string by yourself? Do you need to do all the crazy claw adjusting and messing with the springs as you do with a Floyd Rose trem? Any information about what you need to do to string it or if you need to do anything special to change tunings would help.

thanks

Re: IBANEZ OWNERS... question!

Ibanez branded trems are just licensed Floyd copies, the same rules apply to them (with possible exception to the ZR since it has a tremsetter tossed into the picture, something I've never personally messed with).

The most recent one thats on the set neck RG. thats an awesome floyd rose variant. i think its the edge II, but im not sure.

I have an S370DX, and I ended up just blocking it. However, what you can do, is you can take a 9 volt battery, or a cut piece of wood, wrap it with electrical tape, and place it under the back of the bridge to prop it up. Then string it from there, adjust, and you're ready to go. After a while, you get the hang of it, but at first it can be difficult.

Kap X, Is that all you need to do if you are removing all the strings, to install a pickup? Will that keep the intonation from getting screwed up?

Re: IBANEZ OWNERS... question!

Personally i hate ALL new Ibanez FR-systems (Edge Pro and Edge Pro II). I adored the old Edge and Lo-Pro Edge bridges by Ibanez, but i would not even think about using the newer versions...
They are about half the quality of the older versions to me, a lot less solid etc... They do have some features that make string changes more easy, but it's totally unreliable sinds the holders for your string end(you can leave the end in the new system,no cutting needed)keep breaking off, and are real hard to find etc...
The ZR trem is descent but not as extreme as a true FR-type trem.
I really hate Ibanez for the change they made!! No more new Ibanez FR-equiped guitars no more for me, and i used to play Ibanez exclusively when they had their older bridges still on their models... Such a shame...

Re: IBANEZ OWNERS... question!

I'm with JEM Ghost on this one ...

I dread having to change the strings on my Jem!!!
That being said, once you get it all balanced, the Lo Pro is one of the most fun trems I have ever used. It rests very low, and is totally unique in the way it reacts to the strings because of this. None of my Floyd-equipped guitars can quite do what my Jem can do.

I like the zero-point system and other trem setters, but I don't use 'em, personally.

Re: IBANEZ OWNERS... question!

I'm with both of ya. I once tried to go up a string gauge on my JEM and OMG it took me hours to get the new strings on, reset the trem and tune the basterds... Having said that, once the strings are in tune they do stay that way even with serious wammy abuse!
