Ibanez pickups, Infinity or V series?

Hey there y'all. I was wondering if anyone here has had some experience with both Ibanez Infinity pickups and Ibanez V7/8 pickups. I'm buying an RG next week fitted with Infinitys and I've played one with V's a year or so ago. I remember liking the V pickups but want to know whether I would be better sticking with the Infinity's (i cant really remember what the v's sound like after over a year) I play rock/metal and am looking for a sound that has powerful (but not muddy) bass and enough mids and highs to cut through a band mix without sounding sharp gritty and weak.

thanks alot for any help you can give guys/gals :)

Welcome
I like the V series alot , atleast the neck pickup, but there not to great compared to duncans

take the one that sounds the best unplugged. Then, change whatever pickups came in it to Duncans. You'll be glad you did. ;)

I'll sorta second Benjy...I haven'y played all the Ibanez pups, but my general experience is that the pups should be replaced with something really good. That might be Dimarzio, Duncan, or something else, but whatever it is you're sure to find a great tone.

I liked the stock Vs that came in my RG... not awesome but to me they didn't sound as bad as a lot of people say they do... the neck is really smooth altho the bridge could be a little more aggressive.... sorry, I don't have experience with the infinity.... I'll eventually change the bridge pick-up in my RG but I don't find a reason to change the neck... smooth yet articulate....

the new duncan/ibanez pups are the best ever on a ibanez stock
the bridge pup is better sounding than they duncan distortion model :eek1:

It sounds like you're getting a guitar with INF pups and going to swap to Vs? IMO, the Vs are much better pickups, but this only matters if you're getting them stock. The Vs aren't bad, but if you're going through the cost & hassle of replacing, I'd move up a notch. The older IBZUSA ones were great if you're going used, or look at Duncans or whatever new (or used, of course).

If you want to keep the cost down, many like the duncan designed stuff. Any of these lines will beat the INFs and likely the Vs. But with it wide open like this, listen around a lot for a while to get an idea of what kind of pickup sounds good to you.
