Ibanez reissues original RG550

Ibanez has announced a 20th anniversary reissue of the original 1987 RG550, with original specs! They even have the original tilted neck joint instead of the current all access neck joint, and Ibanez brought back the Edge tremolo especially for these guitars. And look at the matching case! :32:

The only thing that's really different, is that Ibanez has given the reissue a 5-piece laminated maple / bubinga neck... Other than that, these guitars are totally awesome!

yeah u can get them off ebay at low prices these days but they're really old and most of them are in crap condition

the supply seemed pretty healthy to me, but i havent been looking at Ibanez demand on the net at all.

Maybe they just caught on to a 'bring back some 80's vibe' from all the market lately and wanted a peice of it. And those were totally 80's

$1199 is list. I expect to see them in stores for about $799

exactly..... maybe $900 or so.... the reissue will cause the price of the originals to start going up.....

I always wanted one of these... in 1988/89 i used to visit music stores and wnat these Vai and Satch like guitars......

if the reissue causes the prices of original ones to go up, then im glad i have mine already and at a good price too.
if im not wrong i bought it from a forum member years back, but i cant remember who

Cool. I remember when they were brand new and everyone and their dog switched to using them. For a couple of years Ibanez was the brand to have. Definitely a classic superstrat design, and a must have for any wheedle stick collection.

I remember when they first came out. I worked at Guitar Center as my first job, and ironically they cost $550.......RG550.

I still have a vivid memory of a GC trade deal I did. A guy walked in with a 67 Strat, told me he was tired of it, and gave us $100 plus his guitar for a new RG550 in the case. The manager of the store used his own money to pay the cost of the RG550, just so he could take home the 67 Strat. Doh!!!

Me likey! I want the red one.

My current Warmoth Dream Plan is to put together a guitar very much like the RG550. A few key differences (Wilkinson instead of locking trem, HSS) but the general vibe is there.

IMHO, one of the best reissues to come down the line. Just brings a big smile across your face, you know? I remember vividly how badly I wanted one of these, long ago...

i bet you the guy who lost the strat remembers it even clearer :laugh2:

i'd have to totally puke the yellow one out.. green guard, pink pups, the works!

The RG550XX will be limited to 1987 pcs worldwide, with approximately 1200 of those (400 each of the three finishes) destined for the U.S.

there's your high price!

I just dumped an original (among others) for conversion to my 73 LP. The guys at GC were freakin. Think I got 2.5 Bills for it.

I'm sorry - but I just don't get it. I mean, it was a solid axe. But really, basic superstrat. I was gonna convert it to a Vai replica, but never got around to it.

If you love'm, more power to you. I guess I'm just too old...

ok... tbh, I think the yellow HSH mapleneck RG is kind of cool.

I don't think I could live with one. But it's kind of cool.
