Re: IBANEZ RG OR STRAT

Do what works for you. I taught myself to play on a classical I used electric strings on. Not a lot of rules in rock and roll.

Re: IBANEZ RG OR STRAT

I'm going to vote RG 370; That guitar can play / do anything. No matter what musical direction you go, you can ALWAYS keep that guitar. Eventually, better pups, sure. For now - ignore that.

I agree ANY tree is a problem for a beginner - Start terms can be annoying and particular to keep in tune. But - now, through the magic of YouTube, even old farts can learn to swap strings etc. with ease. And once it is set - it will stay in tune for a long time. You can always lock/block/set it down early on to avoid the "floating" problems. That's a simple setup issue. Again - YouTube is your friend.

The Strat is nice, but as said - harder to get enjotyable tones out of it early, and still likely trem issues. There is not a damn thing modern about that except the humbucker and a coil tap.

The 521 is a nicer, but limited axe. Probably the BEST simple for beginners axe, but will likely get swapped in the long run, or heavily modded for your tastes.

Get the 370. Now....more importantly - what amp?

Hmm I did this to some extent
Classical Yamaha with steel strings
Neck bowed so much it was almost unplayable

I ripped the bridge off with acoustic bronze strings because I didn't know the difference. Fixed it with wood glue and a heavy dictionary before my dad found out. It was his and he couldn't play a note. That's when I switched to electric strings.

Amazing
I too pulled the bridge off an acoustic
Not the same Yamaha
Some off brand tuned an octave too high
Middle of the night was a loud pop

Beat it over a fence post the next morning

Yikes! And I thought my first stewardship of a hollowbody was shameful.

Re: IBANEZ RG OR STRAT

Trem, either way, is gonna take a little patience to get used to. I've been playing for 33 years and I STILL prefer hardtails. That being said, the Strat buiid I'm working on is gonna have one because I want to have one on SOMETHING!

I say play them all and get a feel for them... what FEELS most comfortable to you? Think of how the neck feels, the way the body feels as it rests against you (balance, contours, etc.).

If you're looking for blistering distortion, one of the Ibbies may work better for you just because of the humbuckers vs the singles on the Strat. All other things being equal, the HSH will give you by far the greatest tone arsenal of the three... but to me the way the guitar feels when I play it is the single most important factor... but I like the general feel of all three of your choices. I love my RG, I love my HSH (Westone), and I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna like my partscaster when it's completed, but if I had to pick one of them it'd probably be the HSH.
