Need Help guys! the stock pups in the s420 are inf1 and inf2. I want to change them with some seymour duncans and need your help. it's the first time i am replacing pickups :nervous: and i dont know the mechanisms of the infinity ones- the blue, black, red and white wires are confusing, :15: and i don't know which ones are the hot or ground connections , so, don't know which ones to solder... which wires are similar with th Seymour Duncan's??

A lot of times the ground wire will connect to a pot rather than the switch, so that should help. Also, are you planning on using split coil sounds? You may think about putting in a three way switch to simplify things.

The S420 is a thin mahogany bodied guitar, so the tone can vary on those. It's always safe to go with a TB-5 Duncan Custom in the bridge on any guitar. It's pretty much a universal pickup. The Jazz or 59 should work fine in the neck position.

I had a JB/Jazz set in an S320 (older, 22-fret version of the same model) for years and got a range of compliments on that combo. In fact they only came out yesterday so I can do a refin and add a mid pickup.

With regard to your wire colours, the following drawing is a good place to start:

The wires are a direct swap on the bridge, and should also be a direct swap on the neck, colour-for-colour - the whole pickup is just wired in reverse to get humcancelling in position 4, but on the Duncan you'll get the screw (outer) coil of the neck pickup instead of the inner... I think, anyway. I'll see if I still have the diagram I did years ago when I made the swap - can't remember exactly what I did, but it worked.

If you do decide to go for a different-than-stock wiring scheme you'll need to buy a new switch - the SC2502N has a PCB inside which is fairly specific to this wiring scheme.

Sorry, swap top to bottom rather than colour for colour on the neck. This diagram (not mine) looks right.
