Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

I had another thread up here awhile ago that was me complaining about how dissatisfied I was with my Ibanez for a few reasons, and I just found an auction on eBay that seems to have an almost new Schecter C-1 Classic in its hardshell case for about $500 USD. I would be able to sell my Ibanez to more than cover this cost... so I'm really tempted to pull the trigger on this guitar. It comes with Duncans, JB/59 but I guess I could swap those out really quickly. Also it's got JUMBO frets and a beautiful amber burst quilt top.

Do you guys think I should go for it?

Well I hate ibeenhads, so I'm biased. I don't really like schecters either.

But schecters' necks are WAY more playable than anything ibeenhad ever done.

I can't agree here, I think thats preference.

I like the schecters better...the Ibanez are too rounded, lol...

I started to ask why...but then saw your username and music preferences...

I've never tried that set before, though it's been recommended to me. But what I actually meant was "in case I don't like them I can always swap them out."

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

Ah ok...yeah, I like them but I guess they're generally known for a nice and 'classic' kinda sound...not as heavy as others.

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

I'd do it, better quality componants, better looking guitar, 24 frets... fk yeah:smokin:

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

I love the Ibanez SZ series. I love Schecter C-1s, too.

The only thing I dislike about the C-1 is the bottom cutaway is too shallow, coz I always end up banging my hand when I'm on the high frets.

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

Never played the classic, but used to own the C1+. I currently own the SZ520. A few notes:

1. I sold a spare SZ520 on eBay, as well as the c1+. The resale value on the Schecter is much higher ($420 vs. $300).
2. The Schecter is a 25.5" scale, so bends are harder. The Ibby is 25.1".
3. You lose the sweet spot for the neck pickup with 24 frets.
4. The SZ520s are very treble-y compared to the Schecters.
5. Schecters have more bottom in my experience.
6. Totally subjective: the Schecters look more "evil", the Ibanezes look more "happy".

All of those things add up to me liking the Ibanez better, but those are some of the relevant factors you should consider.

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

This post is coming from someone who likes Ibanezs...

The schecter c-1 just has a much better tone. Apart from being subjective it just sounds more like a quality guitar than the Ibanez SZ. You know how cheap imports sound the same and have no real "character" to the tone? I've found SZs are like that, while the C-1s can be really toneful.

Neckwise its not a huge difference, the SZ necks aren't shredding necks anyways but the C-1s are still more traditionally shaped (rounder).

Even if both guitars were stripped of components I think the C-1 sounds better unplugged, not to mention that it comes with SDs and if I'm not mistaken a Tonepros bridge.

I think you should definitely go for it, if I didn't hate the colour and had any money right now I'd sure go for it.

Grover Tuners too:smokin:

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

ONE THING I just noticed about that guitar in the auction though.. the Schecter C-1 Classics on their website have only ONE master volume and ONE master tone.... whereas the C-1 Classic in the auction has 3 knobs, probably vol/vol/tone. Why do you suppose that might be?

*EDIT* The "Diamond Series" logos are also in different places on the headstock, perhaps the one in the auction is a newer/older model than what their website has?

Thats what i was thinking,

see what others think hmm...

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

I think the discrepencies between the auctioned guitar and the website is due to the fact that the guitar is a 2005. Either that or the website shows the 2005, FYI Schecter does not do a good job of updating its website.

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

The older models used to have 3 knobs, my C1+ had the old control layout.

Re: Ibanez SZ520 for Schecter C-1 Classic?

The Schecter is much better than the Ibanez. I agree with JB that the cutaway for the C-1 is a little shallow.
