Does anyone here use one of these? Is it worth $169.99? I am thinking about one for a lead boost. Thanks for any info.

I love mine strangely I use mine for rythem alot :smack:. With my amp and my TS I can nail the sex pistols tone not that this is very hard just a little info for you. And for lead I can get some very good sounds out of it.

I'd buy a cheap run of the mill TS-7 or TS-10 and send it to StratDeluxer for a mod. He's the man when it comes to modding that particular pedal and you'll have a superior sounding pedal at less than 1/2 the cost.

Here's one TS-10 on ebay that you can snag for a song. Some other dude has one on there for a $125 BIN, which is insane...

This is a TS-7 for a song...

I think the TS-7 is supposed to be very close to the original TS-808. A couple of minor changes and you're there dude. Let John Spina (stratdeluxer) get ahold of it and you're in tone heaven.

What Gr8Scott said, or send Mr. Spina a VooDoo Labs SparkleDrive. It is an excellent TS 808 with a clean knob. Check fleabay for a used one.

Good idea about the modding, but I can't recommend the TS-10. Those things are notorious for having switching problems. I had one for a while, so I'm all too familiar with the switching issues. I'm not sure how the TS-7 is, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ibanez has improved the footswitch on it.

Re: Ibanez TS808 Reissue Tubescreamer

what amp you playing through? what style? In my search for a tubescreamer, i ended up with a maxon od9. SOunds awesome through my Marshall TSL. My understanding is that Maxon built all the early tubescreamers, and the OD9 has the same circuit (including the "Chip") that was in early tubescreamers. And it was cheaper than ibanez. My 2 cents. Cheers

Re: Ibanez TS808 Reissue Tubescreamer

Thanks for the info DR,
I am using various Marshall and Fender amps for hard driven Rock and Blues. I will check out the Maxom as well.

Most people say that these need to be modded to sound good, mine is unmodded and I like it as it is. I have a TS808 RI I have mine on all the time in combo with my V-Stack classic. I use both as boosts. Both with gain on 0 and that gives me a sound that I enjoy. I don't think it sounds heavenly when using too much gain from it. Works better as a boost, IMO.

The TS7 uses the same small, cheap, crappy, plastic switch that the TS5 has! Otherwise a cool pedal...

I just listened to the sound clips of the TS808 and the TS 9. To my ears the TS808 sounds a lot better, and is being called the Holy Grail from some reviews I have read. I also like the footswitch on the TS808 better.

The 808 has the better sounding opamp and 2 different resistor values in it's output stages, otherwise both the identical pedals..The stock versions of both of these pedals do 100% better in my opinion by some tweaking...YMMV?

The Voodoo Labs Sparkel Drive kicks the 808/TS9's a$$ though and has more to offer?

Was'nt the TS808 Tubesceamer originally the "Real Deal"/Holy Grail? and most of the others models trying to clone that tone?

Yes but one man's holy grail is another man's junk tone....Trust your ears buddy and don't buy into the hype too much! I Like the Voodoo Labs pedal hands down better than any of the entire TS series!

And yes there are tons of "clone" Tube Screamers you can buy today!

I think I will try the TS808 first, and take it from there.

Listen to the TS9 and the RI 808 at your local store before buying either if you can George! The 808 is $69 more than the TS9.
