ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I've honestly never heard of them.

But I'm quite happy to support a builder from right in my home town who I feel is producing a top notch product. The fact he's already got his pedals on the boards of all the top pros in the region speaks volumes. We're taking guys who have the budget to get whatever pedals they want and have very discerning tastes.

OFA's prices are competitive and affordable FWIW.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

No - there are too many with way more flexibility.

If all I wanted was a basic TS, sure. But If I had my life to live over, I'd get a DX9 Screamer with four flavors. Or some such thing. Maybe a Duncan 808…

hi,Aceman
you say you would get get a DX9 Screamer with four flavors, this is a ( IBANEZ TS9DX) yes/no???

thanks,
bluesfloyd.

That's how I took it bluesfloyd. The TS9DX has the original TS9 voicing and ads more gain and bass as you cycle through the modes.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I've tried all 3 and I like the Ts9 and purchased it. It's only $99 new so there is no issue there. The Mini was nice and for a few bucks cheaper and room on your board , it's a win win. I just thought the Ts9 had a little better sound to it.
I tested them on a Fender Twin Reverb amp so I could completely here the pedals only.
You should go to your local shop and do this test. You might like the other.
I never tried the Maxon 808 but from I've been told, it sounds like the Ibanez almost exactly.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I'd buy the 805. Active tone controls so you can control the mid hump and missing bass, more gain range than a TS, with the same basic flavor. It does a lot more and cost less than a handbuilt plain-jane 808.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I really like my Maxon OD 808. I'd check out their line up before Ibanez.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

My favorite TS style OD is still the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive Mod. It has four OD settings: Vintage-TS808, Mod1-Lead, Mod2-Rhythm/Mid Cut, Mod3-Hi Gain, and a blend able clean boost. Since I bought this pedal I've never turned it off.

I have the original version with the Keeley mod, great little TS influenced pedal. As you say the blend able clean boost with the TS circuit makes it a true (2 in 1) pedal. The Fulltone Full-Drive II Mosfet pedal is essentially the same thing.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

Fulldrive 2 MOSFET doesn't have a blendable clean boost. The "boost" is simply increasing the drive pot value and slightly modifying the voicing. That being said I really like it, and use it on my board. (Gain under noon for rhythm, boost at full for solo. I've tried quite a few TS style pedals but I keep coming back to it for my Strat and PR, they pair perfectly)

The Fulldrive 3 has replaced that feature with an actual independent clean boost that can go before or after the OD portion.

I haven't used my Fulltone Full-Drive II Mosfet pedal in ages. It's my Keeley/Boss BD-2 that now receives full-time duty.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

maxon od9.
Its a ts9 but built better.

I liked the current-production TS-9 a lot, but I thought the OD-9 was sweeter and more solid-feeling, plus it's true bypass.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

Only used the TS9 before but eager to try an OD808 and other models. The TS9 is great for what I need it for though, boosts the signal and tightens up that flubby-ness on Peavey 6505+'s. A bit of a mid-hump too and just gives it more oomph!

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

hi, guys
if you were going to buy a (ibanez ts9 or maxon od808 tube screamer) today, would you still choose these tubescreamers or buy a ts9/od808 clone?
if you do rate the new clone models, which are the top choices?

thanks again for your time guys,
bluesfloyd,

I would probably buy the OD808. I heard the TS9 has more gain and a bit raspier. I just need the boost and the EQ. However I own about 4-5 different clones and don't need a new one.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I love my 808, it's on 90% of the time with my JCM800's

I've tried many TS and TS clones, including one's costing upwards of $300...which I find an absolute joke.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I compared the Ibanez and OD808 to the Semour Duncan 805, and the 805 won. In trying it on my Fender Twin 65 RI it has the best sound to my ears. True bypass, 3 band EQ, and a smoothness that was wonderful. Some edgy top end was heard in the TS9 in comparrison.

I came away with the same opinion. The 805 won every time. On the other end of the price spectrum, I also liked the Bad Monkey, too- mostly because of the EQ, again.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I preferred the Maxon to the Ibanez. Just felt, responded and sounded better through my (former) Mesa DC-5.

Re: ibanez ts9/ maxon od808 tube screamers

I like the Visual Sound Route 808. More range than a Tubescreamer. Gets the sounds of a TS9 or 808 but also gets better cleanish sounds as well as more overdrive for overdriven sounds.

It's the pedal I'll tend to use for Rootsy, Ry Cooderish slide tones.
