Ibanez Tube Screamer ts808 vs. ts9

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer ts808 vs. ts9

What in the world are you talking about? The Bad Monkey pedal has nothing to do with the guy from Korn.
I remember reaing somewhere that its the monkey dude from korn sig pedal. His version of ts. Late 90s.

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer ts808 vs. ts9

Nope... not at all... I honestly have no clue what you're on about dude. The Bad Monkey is a killer little pedal for no money and it IS a tube screamer kind of sound. Just way better for me.

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer ts808 vs. ts9

You may be hearing a combination of the different opamp and 2 resistor changes in the output,or you might just want to think that the 808 is smoother because it's $69 more? LOL.....Just maybe though? :)

:scratchch it might have been haha

check your PM's by the way

There's been a miscommunication somewhere. The Bad Monkey is definitely not related to Korn. I don't think it's even been around that long. If the Korn guys use Tubescreamers, they'd be using the real things, given their association with Ibanez.

Dude, I definately remember reading an interview with them(I read interviews with musicians I cant stand before interviews with my idols, I am weird like that) where they praising how digitech did everything they asked for ... I think relationship might've ended and a while ago, rightnow the only thing I can that supports is the russian equivalent of zzmusic or something like that, but its in russian ...

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer ts808 vs. ts9

Well John, seeing as you're the guy who rebuilt one of my TS-9's to TS-808 specs and it sounds virtually identical to my real TS-808 all I can say is: YOU'RE RIGHT! :):):thanks::):) But I also have an unmodded TS-9 and I do prefer the modded TS-9 and stock TS-808 to it.

Wow that TS9 still works?! Awesome! :naughty::)Thanks Lew....I love you buddy!

Great bang for the buck! Agreed!

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer ts808 vs. ts9

I've worked on,modded, and have played through "alot" of Tube Screamers and some of the clones out there....After you change a TS9 over to the output resistance of the 808 and get the right chip in there, the differences any of us hear or think we hear,is component tolerences...The tolerences of the pots alone,is enough to make one pedal sound a bit smoother,darker,warmer,etc...The caps, resistors, and main components of the circuits in the TS9 and the 808s are the same...I'd tell a guy today to buy the TS9 over the $70 more 808 reissue, plus the TS9 has a wider stomp switch than the 808....I have an 808,but a TS9 is great also...Even better is a modded Voodoo Drive Sparkle Drive though! Hands down!

Is there an echo in here? LOL. Nice to see you and I are on the same page in this regard. :beerchug:

For my damaged ears and wallet - TS9 all the way.

They did/do use some Digitech stuff. I saw Monkey's rig in the back of a Guitar World the other day, and there was definitely Digitech stuff, but since those Ibanez Tone-Lok pedals came out, they've been strongly associated with them.

Anywho, bottom line is check out the Bad Monkey. It sounds nothing like Korn :)

He spells his name 'Munky' and he has absolutely nothing to do with the design of this pedal.
Actually, I have no idea where Digitech got the name- but these are just a few years old- not from the late 90s. It is probably the best pedal Digitech ever made, although my late 80s (?) DOD Stereo Turbo Chorus is pretty close.

I used a TS7 for years, until I heard the Monkey.

This should help you see the differences in the tubescreamers. Written by R.G. Keen, very wise. It's worth the read even if it's a bit over your head. Try the maxon 808 I thought they were cheaper that the ibanez reissues, I'm sure someone will correct me if that's wrong.

Yep, great stuff there. R.G. know his stuff. He's a regular at diystompboxes.com.

The Maxon 808 is actually more expensive than the Ibanez. Maxon used to make the Ibanez pedals.

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer ts808 vs. ts9

The TS-809 is the way to go.....true fluxdiodes and a 51508 JRC superchip with a coffeebrewer attached to it!
Brews coffee when reacing 9.9 volts...nifty!

And will send you back to 1985 if you can speedpick at 88 MPH....LOL

Is that the Malaysian 51508 JRC superchip or the Venezuelan? I've heard the Malaysian makes the better coffee, somewhat surprisingly. Plus, I can't use anything with fluxdiodes, they give me a rash.

Cheers..........................wahwah
