Ibanez Tube Screamer vs. X

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer vs. X

I Mentioned that it wasn't just the opamp differences...The pedals aren't exactly alike but close...Guys with good ears do hear the differences...

Oh I know, it's the same thought I had actually.

On topic I know they may not be the cheapest, but check out some of the zvex products, this guy has some really cool stuff. Box of Rock and the Super Duper pedals come to mind.

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer vs. X

I have a modded TS9 on my board the StratDeluxer did for me, and I will never take it off. Its a great pedal. TS9's in general are reall usable OD pedals. The 808's have a little more push and the tone can be better, depending on how you use it.

Xsissive made me one of his Monroe drives. Now I am not a teckie guy, and honestly I don't experiment with to many pedals. I have what I need and am very happy with what I have.

The Monroe Drive is one of the best overall OD pedals I ever used. It is base on the 808, but has more options. It has a sandard Volume, gain and tone adjustment. On the left it has a mini toggle that when flipped it increases the bass substantially (I have no need for this). Could be good for metal though. On the other side it has another mini toggle with 3 settings. In each setting you are either increasing or decreasing the gain. It has an 800 tone a stock 808 tone and another setting that has less gain.

I use the modded TS9 in my Bogner Shiva in the clean channel (ocassionally with the drive too) and I use the Monroe drive with my Komet. Both pedals are great and depending on the amps they are run in to, they can sound very different.

Re: Ibanez Tube Screamer vs. X

I'm shocked and appalled that noone has mentioned the super cheap Arion Tubulator!!!!

The circuit sounds incredible for the $25 price tag. I actually PREFER it to my TS-808 spec modded TS-5. The tubulator has a tad more gain and a smooth smokey OD sound to it that is very very close to the tube screamer, but it's just slightly different. The switches and the knobs on this effect are not first rate and they do go out of order/fall off pretty quickly, but I'd re-case this pedal to keep it running rather than part with it. It's that good. It's tone even impressed Brisk to the point that he was shocked by it's tone and he has incredible taste and supremely nice gear. Incredible tone at a bargain basement price. I'd buy another as a backup, but I just don't feel the need as the price hasn't skyrocketed just yet. For $25, what do you have to lose?

Tubulator ftw!! I got mine for $10:D
