Ibanez's Naming: RGXTS654636537000?

Re: Ibanez's Naming: RGXTS654636537000?

I could be wrong, but here it goes.

Any Ibanez guitar with a model name that is 4 digits, like the RG1570, is from the Prestige line. The RG570 is the older model 570.

Like the RG320DX is not from the prestige line, but the RG2550E is from the Prestige line. Also, models that begin with a 7, are also some times seven strings. Like the RG7620 and the RG7420.

It is confusing, I know.

Re: Ibanez's Naming: RGXTS654636537000?

So are the higher numbers better than the lower numbers or is there a code?

I used to drive a bus and our busses had a "code" where the first digit told you what engine it had, the second digit was the last digit of the year it was made, the third digit would tell you its length (0 for 35', 1 for 40') and the last digit was a serial number.

See what I mean...is there any meaning to these numbers?

What is the meaning of the prefix letters?

Re: Ibanez's Naming: RGXTS654636537000?

4 digits are prestige models mostly, except for the ones starting on 7 which are seven strings.
A 1 as the last digit usually means it's a hardtail(at least for the RG series)
Apart from that i have no idea.

Re: Ibanez's Naming: RGXTS654636537000?

I'll just give en example:

RG-550DXBK

RG = RG Model

5xx = Japanese

x50 = HSH w/pickguard

DX = sharktooth inlays

BK = Black

Now that's what I'm looking for - thanks!

So can you direct me to where I can find out where the other location / pickup config / inlay / color information is?

There's the 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700 series. The higher up you go, the better the parts and quality of the guitar. Anything 500 and above is made in Japan. 400 are Korea, 200 and 300 are made in China, I beleive. Anything 500 and above you get the top of the line tremolo and tuners (Edge, or these days, Edge pro, and gotoh tuners)

A few years ago they turned the japanese line into the Prestige line, so an RG 570 became the RG 1570, etc...

a "50", meaning 350, 450, 550, etc.. means it's a HSH with a pickguard.

a "70", meaning 370, 470, 570, etc... is a HSH with no pickguard.

a "20, such as 520, means it's HH.

As mentioned above, DX usually means it has sharktook inlays and binding.

A "T" anywhere in the name- ex. RGT3120, means it's a neck thru.

"FM" anywhere in the name means it has a flame maple veneer top

That's generally the designations. Then there's others, depending on the color, finish, years, etc....

I've always been annoyed by that. I just assume that higher numbers mean a more expensive guitar.

The 400's used to be made in Japan too, but had a mid-level trem.

The really early 400's (Roadstar II Era) had Edge Trems and Gotoh Tuners.

the 60 (Ie RG560) was HSS and the 65 (is RG565) was a HS with reverse Headstock. Things have changed alot lately tho...
