Last weekend I went to a cousins wedding in the D/FW area and went to a few guitar shops in the process. Last stop was the GC in Arlington, supposedly the largest in the area. BUNCH of amps and guitars, plus the place was loud already so turning up a bit wasnt difficult. Anyhow, after being disgusted once again by Ibanez (RG321, the new archtop RG) and wowed again by a fender lite ash strat, I eventually picked up an interesting LP that had a swamp ash body, mahogany neck and RW fingerboard. I instantly realized it was the best LP i had played so far, out of a few other studios and a couple standards in the past. Action was great, tone was even better, had sustain and all. Best Gibson i have ever played.. love that guitar! Inspiried by a studio, I walked to the other gibsons and took one of the faded LPs, which i had seen many pics of and thought they (some of them) were beautiful. Plugged up, thing played like a**, sounded mediocre, no sustain compared to the studio. From what i've heard in the past on here, it didnt surprise me.
Only problem is i cant remember the exact tag.. I know it was a LP Studio in swamp ash, but it had a few letters after it. Looks almost exactly like this studio on the bay- http://cgi.ebay.com/GIBSON-LES-PAUL-STUDIO.. but it had a RW board and with inlays. The ash was a little darker, which made it look even better than that one. Is it some sort of GC exclusive? I think the price was $1100 on it also.. tempting but i rarely have that kind of money.
