Ideas for Partsocaster

Just putting this out there as a brainstorm and curiosity to see if anyone else enjoys these kinds of thought exercises.

I've been playing 19 years, mainly on one Strat. Made the decision to start fresh this and have been exploring the world of non-Strats, which has been super fun. But now that I'm meeting my musical needs with non-Strats, and have this disassembled Strat, what do I do with it?

I'm currently playing on:
Gibson SG with PAFs and huge flatwounds - woody, warm, jazzy, jam band, classic rock, hard rock. Totally different than my old Strat.
PRS SE with humbuckers and light strings - modern, clear, liquid leads, sort of Fender-ish but fatter, hard rock, metal, funk

Trying to decide what's worth exploring with the soon-to-be Partsocaster, without going in a traditional Strat direction. In the past I've enjoyed low output lipstick tubes, overwound singles, actives, and a Dimarzio Virtual P90/Air Zone combo in this guitar. Two things I've never tried but would like to are ultra high output humbuckers and a single pickup guitar.

Anyways, just drumming up ideas. Thanks!

Alex

Going down the road to Partscaster-land is always a worthwhile journey. On my journey, I realized that I don't like high output humbuckers or single pickup guitars. Vintage PAF-types in a Strat is a great formula for me.

I've actually entertained the idea of vintage A3 single coils. Which would be a radical departure from everything else that I have.

Maybe HSH with a high output bridge and a single-sized hum at the neck. Nice flexible arrangement, especially wired for autosplit on the bridge and a series/parallel switch for the neck.

If I could justify putting a set of Zephyr sc's in...
But it's a big step.
Still, an investment in precious metal too.

Try some creative pickup switching options

Maybe a balance (mix) pot between the neck and middle pickup.... or HSH or HH or HSS or HHH with some tricky switch that does parallel series coil taps etc combinations like some Ibanez models use

You can do so many things with a swimming pool strat. Just make up a concept and go with it. Use something you already have and buy 1 or 2 new pups. My favorite right now is half rawk, half paf sounds with hums. Just made this pickguard.

I'm putting together a Parts-o-caster myself.

I haven't bought the neck or body yet and I could use some suggestions for who to buy it from. Warmoth? USA Custom?

But I know what pickups I'm putting in it.

Look at Warmoth's showcase. You get good prices of finished bodies. I highly recommend them.

I love the look of this guitar btw.

Thx. Pickguards.com messed up my order so I have an extra red HSH pickguard that I probably won't use. So you or anyone else can have it if you want.

Grooving lately on the idea of wiring it up with two output jacks and sending one pickup to a octave pedal and bass amp, and the other two to my regular guitar rig. Saw a video of a guitarist that used half a P-bass pickup to amplify only the low E and A strings. I feel like that would be a pretty cool experiment, and would fit my style as I often (try to) play root notes with my thumb and different things on the higher strings. Check it out!

Any idea on how to wire up that P bass half coil?
