Identify Antiquity Strat Please

Hi, I bought three Strat Antiquity Pickups a year or so ago and for the life of me, I do not remember exactly what they are. There are these numbers

10011063 Bridge

10052493 Middle

10011197 Neck

I am thinking about selling these and going with noiseless and I would like to know what I have before I say they are the wrong thing and torq someone off who buys them.

Can you guys give me a hand?

Welcome to the forum.

The eight digit numbers that you have quoted are the individual serial numbers of the pickups. These can only help to identify the pickups by matching them against the original packaging.

Photographs or a fuller description might help. Something as simple as DC resistance readings and the colour of the vulcanised fibreboard bobbin plates would do.

Re: Identify Antiquity Strat Please

We need photos. You can tell Ant1 from Ant2 by the materials used and the polarity of the magnets.

Hi, I don't have an ohms meter but, I did take a few pictures. The numbers on the back of the pickups didn't come out in the pictures, but there is a hand written signature on the back that looks like just the first name Seymour. Here are the crappy picts... I hope this helps.

Okay. I am seeing black (rather than grey) underside bobbins plates. To me, this indicates Antiquity (1) series pickups.

The bridge position unit (the one with the shortest leads) could be either regular output or the hotter Custom version.

Re: Identify Antiquity Strat Please

Hi Funkfingers. You are brilliant. They are the hotter pickups. I remember that much while ordering. It was right after the Antiquity II's came out and I remember being blindsided by having to make a choice and not knowing what each sounded like. Tadaaa!

Thank you

TJ

PS. What are the Antiquity I Hotter pickups actuallly called?

Re: Identify Antiquity Strat Please

Not brilliant. Just read the packaging. (I kept mine.) The website product descriptions carry the same information.

The names for the Ant 1 pickups are;
B = Strat Custom, Bridge (1024-01)
C/N = Strat Texas-Hot (1024-02)

Re: Identify Antiquity Strat Please

Funkfingers, I usually recycle all the boxes that I get. I sell, very nice, locking tuners for Strats and Tele's, 6IL Chrome Right Handed Tuners. They are made by Jinho and are the same quality as Schaller or Sperzel for $30. I do it on eBay. I use every small box that I can get my hands on. This is a time where I should have either written down what they are or kept the dang boxes.

I really love these pickups, but I am leaning toward a bit deeper sounding pickup that is noiseless. I am a Classic Rock player, or as I like to say a ripe weekend warrior..

Though I usually always buy SD, I bought a set of Dimarzio Area pickups for my Strat and they are amazing and silent. I still have Antiquity 50's in my Tele, and that works really well. Those pickups are what made me fall in love with a Tele.

What does SD offer that would be warmer, but not Lil'59 high gain and are noiseless for a Strat and Tele?

Thanks,

TJ

Re: Identify Antiquity Strat Please

Oh, dear. Noise-cancelling replacements for single coil pickups are one of my pet hates.

So far, the only exceptions have been the STK-T1n and the Custom Shop Tele Lead Stack. The former has a hint of Gibson mini HB about it. The latter actually sounds like a Tele in a way that the STK-T3b entirely fails to do.

I am yet to hear a noise-cancelling Stratocaster replacements that I like. I have an STK-S6n stashed away somewhere but I have yet to get a chance to audition it.

Re: Identify Antiquity Strat Please

Funkfingers, The Area pickups I am using are Area 58, bridge, Area 67, Middle, and Area 67 Neck position. They keep the sound of the Strat really well, but have more warmth, and they are not overwound hardly at all. That is what keeps the sound more like the actual guitar. I don't like pickups that are balls to the walls and lose the sound of the guitar. I was surprised that I turned to Dimarzio. I have not used their pickups in about 20 years, since SD came out. I love what he does with vintage pickups. He is the best. I think the output on any of those pickups are less than 7k ohms each.

Re: Identify Antiquity Strat Please

To date, I have tried noise-cancelling replacement pickups for Stratocaster, Telecaster, P90 and Jazz Bass. Every time, two things go. One of these is the hum induced by mains electricity, light faders and so forth. The second is a certain something about the tonal and dynamic response.

I am not saying that any of these pickups is "bad". I just do not happen to like them.
