If Epiphones were Gibsons...

If Epiphone's instead said Gibson and changed their headstock shape to the regular Gibson type, would you be more likely to buy them?

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

The line between lower-end Gibsons and higher-end Epi's continues to blur, and that's not counting the Elitist line.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

Do you mean if the Epiphone name was eliminated altogether, but they continued to be made as Gibson's low-end line exactly as they are made now?

If so, then yes. I would be more likely to buy/use one, because the heads would be so much more attractive. However, I still likely wouldn't buy any of them.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

Yes. Like one of Pavlov's dogs, I've seen the logos enough to drool more when I see the Gibson name. But that happens for a reason as well if you catch my drift. Slap it on anything and I'll stop drooling eventually, but maybe not at first.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

Epiphone is Gibson...

Since Gibson owns Epiphone...

When will the rest of you understand that fact!

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

I would like it if some of the higher end Epis had Gibson logos and headstocks - the equivalent of MIJ / MIM Fenders. They could still label the cheaper models as Epiphone (equivalent to Squier...).

Rumor has it we may actually see this very thing by the end of this year or announcement at NAMM next year. Inside sources say they can't keep up with production and there have been "rumors" that Gibson very well may send their lower priced guitars to Korea or Japan and still keep the Gibson headstock and logo.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

Probably yes. there are some very playable epiphones and IMO they are just as overpriced as Gibsons so at least give us the headstock shape. the epi one is ugly.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

I'd like for Epiphone to say what their woods really are rather than 'mahogany body' when its a 1mm veneer over poplar.

No matter high-end and Epi is, it will always be a second brand, while Gibson even the crappy ones will always be 'America's valued heritage'.

Actually there are Epi LPs with the open-book headstock, but I am not really sure about the details.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

I don't care if it says Epiphone on the headstock or not, but at least change the shape to the Gibson headstock. The Epiphone headstock is not that appealing to me, but good prices and quality ultimately outweigh the headstock shape.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

I agree the Gibson headstock just looks better.

Brand - I couldn't care less. Unless they call it "Turd-Tar" or something like that, I am no more or less likely to buy it.

This is true. Ive played ALOT of impressive epis lately and unimpressive gibbys. Ill bet in a blind test, 80% or more players wouldnt be able to tell the diff. Espec if you had the same set of pups in each one. Duncans, of course..

Sadly, the headstock is the biggest complaint with Epis it seems. (at least on a few boards) but they prolly wont change them due to forgeries.

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

There are a few Epi's that I wouldn't mind having now. Nevermind the headstock. If it plays great and sound great, who cares if it's not the same as Gibson (because in the end, it's not)?

Re: If Epiphones were Gibsons...

Nope, brands don't mean anything to me.... just a better or worse chance of getting a good guitar.

They all make good ones and poorer ones.
