If going floorboard direct - what Multifx?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
So, if you were going to go "maples" and just use a floorboard and a DI, with a Monitor from the board, what would you use?

- call it low, mid and, high end

**At the top...Leave Kemper and Neural out of it. High end of normal. Not in Orbit.

Lets just assume I'm using for all your standard classic, rock, and hard rock into metal sounds.

Did you see the review of the Headrush in this forum? Sounds promising. I use the GT-1000, it can do it too, just not as straight forward to get there as the others IMHO.

I did not. A friend just got one of those.

I could likely use my G3N if I wanted to. But that is fairly low end and I have it mostly for the effects loop.

I have the Headrush MX5 and am very happy with it. It will do far more than I will ever need it to. Its small, fits on my pedal board with room for additional pedals if I want, can run it using just the power amp section of my Jub or in front, can be used as a connection to my laptop to record.

What really won me over in the MX5 vs Pod Go battle, in the Pod Go, you can only run one amp at a time, you can run two amps together in the MX5. For example, you can run a Marshall and Fender or a Orange and Engl at one time. Ive had mine for several months and still discovering things about it that I was unaware of and still figuring out, like the preloaded IRs in it.

Make sure whatever you get is supported regularly by the company. Software updates and bug fixes are important, as so many companies come out with a product and let it die out there (Digitech & Roland did this sort of thing).

I'd probably go with the headrush over the POD Go, definitely a more "pro" unit, but depends on your application. If it was going to be my whole rig, I would also go for the full size with all the switches and exp pedal, but again, depends on the application.

Mooer also has a full size contender - http://www.mooeraudio.com/product/GE300-223.html

I really like being able to do channel switch, boost, delay, chorus, reverb on-off all with independent switches.

Optionally, I could just add a Tres verb to my Mooer mini board...LOL

Simple path

Zoom MS-50G into a DI box. Programmable. Has amp and cab sim built-in, so works fine through DI. It's low end, but really good sounding for the money. I have several of the amps it emulates and it does a really good job of making 'that sound' on a budget.

Any of the many, below or up to $500 boards, new or used, would do what you want.

Simplest to program & use would be where I'd start. Features wise you have choices of no. of switches, no. of fx in a given signal chain, no. of presets, no. & type of outputs. Oh & last but not least, Durability.

Daisy chain 3 of them using the FX loop :)

In all seriousness, I think the Tech21 Flyrigs are the best option for the simple non programmable approach

This is like a Fly Rig, except I can use a DS1, a Rat, or add an RV6 or whatever I want. I have this.

I'm talking an Amp/Cab/Pedals/etc rig. I am not afraid to program.
