if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

The Electric Amp is one of those "/thread" kind of posts. Nothing beats that.

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

I have one of my dream amps, the Marshall JCM 2555SL.

Of course while I am dreaming, I would like to add the original S.I.R. owned #39 Marshall 1959T, or Aspen Pittman's old purple Marshall 1959 (before the OT died). :D

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

Dr Z Maz 38 SR w reverb, '66 Pro Reverb or something from the Divided by 13 line.

+1 I got a MAZ38 w reverb & effects loop. Every time I play it for people they love the sound. No kidding! Fantastic amp. Funny thing is that there is a LOT of similarity on the 1st channel of my Superdrive 30! Sounds just like a Dr.Z or Div 13.

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

I'll take a Suhr OD50 or a Mojave Coyote.

I'm grabbing a Mojave in a couple months -- either the sidewinder or the scorpion -- haven't decided yet.

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

I have a Mark IV, a JCM 800, and a 5150, so obviously my dream amp is going to be...

A ROADKING!!

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

Hey, Hoss!

Now, you're a big Petty fan, so I'd recommend two amps:

-a 65 London for outstanding voxy and marshallesque tones in one box.

-a Victoria tweed deluxe clone for covering the the thicker end of the fender thing.

I reckon you could put Tom or Mike Campbell in a room with just those two amps and they'd get everything they need...

what about this 65...
65 - SoHo HP
35 WATT (4xEL84), Tube rectified, EF86-12AX7 Cathode Follower with BumpTM circuit and Defeatable Master Volume

Controls: Volume, Treble, Bass, Booster, BumpTM, Bump ToneTM, Bump LevelTM, Master Volume

Designed to be a super-functional amp for working players and enthusiasts who desire widely varied tones in one amp. The SoHo can transition seamlessly from the best of American tones to the sweetest British tones via the BumpTM function and NOT switching channels. The BumpTM will radically shift the tone-stack functionality achieving astonishing renditions of dozens of excellent, natural sounds. In addition to the BumpTM function, there is a defeatable Master Volume that is revolutionary in that is slopes the tone stack as you turn the Master down, giving the Master a very natural sound and ultra-low volumes. The Master can be turned on for "Home" mode and completely defeated for "Gig" mode.

This amp is a must for studio players, small club gigs and enthusiasts who need to play at reduced volumes. . Widely adopted by studio players, sidemen, and producers as a "go-to" amp for recording and gigging. Upon release, the SoHo went on a dozen major tours and is widely used on major-label recordings on a regular basis.

anyone have any experience with it?!

I have extensive experience with the Soho. Been recording an album recently, and I've used one for additional rhythm tracks and a couple of solos sofar.

The Soho has more clean headroom than the London, and can do a lot of tones, from a nice blackface fender clean, to voxy tones through tho marshally tones. It's a killer amp. I prefer the London, as it has that little bit more harmonic complexity and a tad more warmth to the cleans, but both are dream amps.

The first clip on my soundclick page uses a Soho for the solo tone:

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

i would want something with enough clean headroom to sparkle and jangle with depth and bottom like there's know tomorrow, but also something with a NASTY bite and snarl when needed!?

you just described a budda. like sixstringcustoms said the superdrive 30 or 45 would be perfect for you. I have a superdrive 80 halfstack and it is extreme overkill (in a good way though). these amps have a real nice thick + clean distortion sound that most other high $ amps cant touch. cleans are best described as a mix between a hiwatt and a vox. they make some of the best speaker cabs too.

also their customer service is untouchable. go ahead and send them an email. the last time i did, i received a reply the next day from the design engineer (jeff) and the president (scott).

Well, it's no road king, that's for sure. You should be able to get great tones pretty quick. I found it pretty easy to use, but I definitely unlocked a lot more tones as I got to know the amp. But it's not that Mesa situation of tweaking and tweaking to find a good tone.

That myspace dude is getting stupidly good sounds! -if you get one just message him for settings.

The Soho is probably the first amp I'd choose if forced to make a record with just one amp. It can do so much, and it records like a dream.

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

soooo...

basically this amp get's Vox jangle & Fender bottom Cleans, along with Vox grit & Marshall crunch drives?!?!?!?!

what's not to like?!?!!

what kind of cabs/speakers does it like!?

It's hard, because my musical taste is so diverse... Part of me wants to say a Matt Schofield Two ROck model because his tone is killer, and part of me wants to say something Bogner. Even Fuchs has a killer tone. It sucks when you play from B.B. King gritty clean to full out Petrucci like 7 strong heavy riffage...

I had a chance to demo both the Soho and London extensively a few weeks ago, and I would agree with this...both great amps! I, too, ended up preferring the sound of the London, but the Soho was more versatile and also sounded killer. Between the two, if I wanted one amp as my main centerpiece, I probably would have bought the Soho for its sound + versatility+master volume. If I was looking for a great amp to add to a collection of amps, I would have picked the London (note that the London does not have a master volume, if that is important).

I also demo'd the Vox AC15 HW, and it held its own versus the Soho and London, I must say (for about half the price). Also sans master volume.

Ultimately, I kept my TopHat Club Royale--after playing all these other amps, my g-a-s was cured when I went home and plugged back into the TopHat. If I were starting from scratch, it would be a tough call for me between the TopHat and the London, I think...

Re: if i could buy any amp i want...what would it be!?

65 London, if I was feeling greedy.

At a more pratical price, I'd love to replace my old Marshall 4010 combo.
