If you could design a guitar. Your own co...What?

If you were the owner of a new guitar company, what would
be your signature design? Body shape? Woods? Pickups?
Neck style? Bridge? Etc. ?

My signature would be the TOC (Twilight Odyssey Custom) ...

Alder or Maple body
Recessed Floyd Rose bridge
Birdseye Maple neck
Rosewood Fingerboard
Locking nut
Only 1 pickup in the bridge position (either an A2 Pro, Demon or JB)

The body would be black w/cream binding. It will have the Guinness logo on the body and the harp inlays in the fingerboard!!

Ha ha... i like the Guiness and harp touches you'd put on it.. very Irish..

I gotta have my Vitamin G, man! It is definitely my drink of choice. So hard to get good Guinness here in the States, but I've found a pub in NYC that has the best G in the City.

Preach on, brotha!

Meanwhile, if I had a new guitar company, I would try to buy the Steinberger assets from Gibson and I'd produce a guitar exactly like the one I own (Steinberger GM4T w/EMG 89 in the bridge, a Langley D-Head and modified electronics).

A PRS standard type body (the Warmoth VIP). Swamp ash body, maple neck with abalone bird inlays. The body color would be a transparent orange (just orange enough to see the grain of the wood) and there would be a white competition stripe. The size neck would be like the Tele C and the color would be vintage maple. I would have a PRS type trem with locking tuners. The pup setup would be hum-single-hum. I would have Dimarzio Virtual PAFs in the neck and bridge and a Van Zandt Vintage Plus in the middle. One volume and one tone knob w/ coil split options. Three way selector switch ala Gibson. It'd be nice to have a piezo option as well. Yeah, that'd be my signature axe for sure ;)

My design would be similar to a PRS Singlecut with
an H-S-H configuration, a 5 way Fender switch, and a single
volume and tone control, both of which pull up for coil splitting
on the tone, and phase rev. on the volume's pullup.
The middle single coil would be well mated to the bridge and neck
pickup in single mode, like a strat, basically. Think of it as a Singlecut that doubles as a LP or strat.

The neck would have the McCarty profile. Headstock would
be some sort of original 3 tuners per side, like Baker or Schecter.

The bridge would be a a Tonepros stop tail with adj. intonation.

The pickups would be C-5 B, SSL-1, Jazz neck. The hums in nickel.

The color would come in flamed dark mossy green, flamed honeyburst, and curly indigo blue.

MY strange design

MY strange design

I would have a sig guitar, that many of you would think to be very strange.

- Body Shape: Les Paul Single Cut
- Woods: Standard EVH Wolfie Neck, Maple cap on body with Mahogany.
- Pickups: Jazz/JB
- Neck Style: Peavey EVH Wolfgang Signature (TR (with floyd nut ) )
- Bridge: Floating Trem
- Tuners: Sperzel Locking Tuners
- Pots: Dimazio 500k DPDT (x4)
- Wiring (jimmy page custom) - (Split coil)/(Split coil)/(Series/Parrallel)/Out of phase neck
- Nut: Floyd locking nut
- Pup Selector: 4 Lug - 3 way Les Paul Design

-------------------------------------------
This guitar would rock

A Strat, A Tele, and a Les Paul. What else is there????? Stop and think about it why try to reinvent perfection!!!! Can I do Better than Leo or Les??

Already started on it

Construction - 22 Frets, Bolt On, 25.5 inch scale

Body - Mahogany/Maple, Dual Humbucker, hardtail, Graphtech saddles, 3 way, Vol, Tone

Neck - Unfinished Wenge/Ebony, 6105 Frets, Abalone Inlay, Paua Shell on the headstock, flame maple trem cover, earvana nut.

The design is primarily for making a guitar that fits 100% with my playing style and methods. It's designed to sit perfectly in a Classical guitar position, the contours to match my down stroke style and to make upper fret access easy.

Maple fretboard
Maple neck
Flamed maple top/Swamp ash back
5 way strat style switch
3 dual concentric volume/tone pots
1 dpdt on/on switch for having positions 2 & 4 series instead of parallel
1 dpdt on/on switch for switching the phase of the middle pickup
Bridge Pickup: Overwound Alnico II pro
Mid Pickup: Thick, punchy, clear, medium output P-90 (call the custom shop I guess)
Neck Pickup: Slightly underwound Sm-3

mine would be called "EX Guitars", and all we'd make is different explorers and some v's on special occasions

The Hoss

thick mahogany arch-topped tele body
10 top quilted maple caps
mahogany neck thru les paul shape neck
brazillian rosewood board or birdseye maple medium jumbo frets
abolone inlays with small three cross inlay at 12th fret
matching quilted headstock with a gibson/hamer type head
sperzel locking tuners
dual hums with various SD combos...c5/59, a2p/jb, antq's set, seths set, p-90's, jazz/jb, pearlies set...
one volume, one tone, that coil tap
5-way switch
wilkinson trem, or hardtail
silver, gold, or black hardware
colors...crimson burst, silverburst, indigo blue, honey burst, tobacco burst, natural, cherry sunburst, tri-color, black, white, & goldtop...

Hey, I'm good at this game ;)

I would have two guitars in my line.. first one would be the Tele I'm currently having built: Bolt-In oiled Rosewood neck, thinline mahogany body with maple cap, humbucker in neck, standard tele bridge pup, and a piezo in the bridge.

The second would be a semi-hollow similar to the Heritage Blues Deluxe. I would have an unfinished Wenge neck set 3/4 of the way into the body to allow for a string-thru body design. The body itself would be flame maple with a honeyburst finish and dual humbuckers ('59/Seth Lover).

Can I just buy out Sihr or Tom Anderson? is that in the rules?

OK, here's one idea:

Back routed Charvel Surfcaster body, mahogany/maple bent top.

Maple neck, fat c or v profile. Angled Jackson headstock. med jumbo frets, custom compensated nut, gotoh locking vintage fender replacement tuners.

Tele ashtray bridge with duncan antiquity tele pu and wilkinson compensated brass tele saddles. Cream p90 in neck. Three way, Volume and Tone with no-load option.

As for finish, fluo orange paisley with matching headstock would be cool.

A custom set of pickups that go from 59 to p90 to antiquity tele with the turn of a knob would be a very cool addition. Perhaps an advanced form of variax technology that intercepts the guitar's signal after the pickups and alters the pickup sound while keeping the guitar's tonal signature would be a good way of doing that.

hell, while I'm at it a micro version of the transperformance tuning system would be cool, too.

Ahhh.... the transperformance system... I can't believe I forgot that. Sign me up for that too :D (hey, it's only 3 and a half grand, right?

Funny you should mention this... I started drawing up a body design a couple of weeks ago.

Bolt-on 24-3/4" mahogany & pau ferro neck. LP shape below the waist. Two horns shaped almost like an SG's, but with the upper (bass side) horn extending farther toward the headstock to provide more of a neck pocket. Parallelogram pattern for neck bolts with a contoured heel like a Godin to get better access to the upper frets.

Semi-hollow mahogany body with a quilted maple cap, and cat-eye f-holes similar to an acoustic Rickenbacher's. Tiger's eye dye and black binding.

Seth Lovers for a tame version, and Phat Cats for the savage beast version.

Someday...

Chip

I would try to do something using the idea of having a hollow or semi hollow body, except without the F-holes. Maybe a brighter, biting, sounding heavy wood for the body, only it would be hollow so it could have great resonance and fullness. Plus it would be light and probably allow real fat tone while being very articulate and full of life... If i only had the money...
