Re: If you could only have ONE guitar body style, which would it be and why?

For me it would be a good semi. I bought my strat when I was an SRV/Hendrix freak in high school and it was my first big purchase from my first decent job so it has much sentimental value, but I've somewhat turned it into a mongrel that has versatile tones for what I want to do.

If I could go back, I would have weathered the storm with my crappy ibanez ax120 for a year more and bought a gibby/heritage/hamer 335, and loaded it with antiquity's or bareknuckles.

Re: If you could only have ONE guitar body style, which would it be and why?

My boner for ES335s has yet to subside, so I'm gonna go ahead and say that body shape. I've yet to find a better looking or sounding guitar. I'd love someone to propose a style of music you can't play on one. Then I'll call you a liar and slap you in the mouth.

I like SGs and Teles too but I will never part with my faithful '96 Les Paul Standard, so if I can only have one guitar body style it will have to be LP. I love the positioning of the knobs and switch on a Les Paul, the uncluttered layout, the way the guitar hangs, the feel, the tone, the look - I am totally at home on a Lester!

Top fret access is overrated :D

The Stratocaster, of course!

Cheers............................................ wahwah

+1. Everybody has a favorite; for some of us, nothing beats the experience of an LP. And yes, a good player isn't limited by a single cutaway or 22 frets (or less), as has been proven many times over the decades.

Re: If you could only have ONE guitar body style, which would it be and why?

SG. Looks super cool, amazing upper fret access, sounds so balanced, attack and fullness at the same time. And as a bonus it is not as common as strats or Les Pauls, I like being slightly unique (relatively speaking at least) while still looking classy. :approve:

Basically why they are my favorite shape.

Re: If you could only have ONE guitar body style, which would it be and why?

335 is almost interchangeable for an LP IMO, slightly better in all categories except high gain. LP is more roadworthy though.

In some ways, yes. 335's do have more acoustic overtones, and not quite as much low end as the typical LP, but the two are overwise similar sounding. More so than an LP and an SG.

Re: If you could only have ONE guitar body style, which would it be and why?

The one and only body shape that can play, sound, navigate and look like
ANY other electric guitar or bass on the planet is the TELECASTER:headbang:

It can be any of the other bodied styled guitars in the poll and then some!

Lap steel to bass, every imagineable pickup and wood combination,
control layout? anyway you want it, and all bridges can be accomodated.
Hell, you can even do 3 a side tuners like Carvin................but only as a last resort:firedevil

Can you imagine a 3 x single coil LP? Fugly to the extreme:argh:
Strat with 3 humbuckers? Fail! Flying V with TV jones? mmmmm, actually would work!

A Tele is the sort of body you can clothe in battle fatigues to casino tuxe,
vintage to state of the art, country to death metal, sinner to saint!

The Tele is the Model T Ford of guitars................everything is possible and admissable:yes11:

Now grow some hair on yer nuts and get yourself a tele:rocket:

Love, Will

See, we should have made this clear at the start of the poll - are you choosing for comfort, sound, aesthetics, or something else?

For me, the most comfortable body shape is a Strat.

For everything else, give me a Telecaster, please.

+1. I rate 335's a close 2nd to LP's; wonderful rich tones and extremely versatile. And very comfortable. I'll go to a blues jam and usually everybody has a Strat (must be an unwritten law somewhere, just as country singers are required to wear cowboy hats). It's a great feeling to walk in with a 335 and show them a thing or two about Gibson's thoughts on tone.

Not at all surprised that basically the strat style guitar is winning in the polls....Hands down the best axe! I'd say that most of my favorite players today, are on a strat..I also don't have any issues coaxing good tones from mine.

Sheep I say! The poor misguided fools are following each other like livestock. Don't read too much into the poll results, these guys aren't thinking clearly.
