If you could only have one pedal

So if you could only have one pedal what would it be? Multi-effects like the H9 and the Korg Pandora are off the table. One box between you and your amp what is it?

Re: If you could only have one pedal

some sort of high-quality delay pedal with presets.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

I'd probably go with an analog delay, most likely the Carbon Copy. Depending on the gig, though, I might take an overdrive instead, in which case it would be a double OD, something like the JHS Double Barrel or the Wampler Dual Fusion.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

I think if I chose the right amp, I wouldn't need much of anything except maybe some delay. So I'll go with the Carbon Copy as well. I step on that more than anything these days.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

A Wampler Dual Fusion with an amp that has great tube driven spring reverb would do me just fine.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

Probably my Pigtronix Echolution

Re: If you could only have one pedal

A TIS58-loaded EP3 preamp a la BadgerFX Trilogy.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

Id say a tasty fuzz, either Fuzz Face or Big Muff inspired. Probably a good GE based Fuzz Face though, as it's such an awesome range of light OD up through liquid sustain with just your volume knob.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

Blues Driver for lower gain or non-master-volume amps
or if the amp has enough gain I wouldn't mind a carbon copy

Re: If you could only have one pedal

Other than a tuner...

Well, I have the overdrive sounds covered with the Mesa amps so, I would probably choose a Crybaby Classic (or a Dunlop Signature Wah, if I found one I liked better) for rock gigs; and then a DOD Hardwire Chorus for jazz and soft rock gigs. I think there are some pedals that do chorus + delay--I'd have to check that out. I use all my pedals about equally...each effect only gets used on about 4-6 songs a night. I like effects; the trick is not to over-use them.

But Stills, Kath, Clapton, Santana, Hendrix...these guys were all terrific Wah users. Nothing in Rock is as FEROCIOUS as a screaming Wah solo.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

for years my only pedal was a Phase 90

and a Wah/Volume pedal someone gave me
I never plugged it in
have no idea what it did or if it even worked

I probably would use a small amount of delay on everything and be happy

a real short delay makes you rhythms and leads sound houge

Re: If you could only have one pedal

Marshall Jackhammer.
Laugh all you want. It's one of the cheapest, manliest and the best dirt pedal I've ever played.

Re: If you could only have one pedal

TC Electronics Booster + Line Driver and Distortion, Ive had one of these in my rig since 1989, I never use it for distortion only as a boost. This is my always on pedal and is so perfect for punching in the face of a tube amp.
