If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

someone else pointed out in another thread that Hendrix and SRV used an old phone cord...

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

I've had better luck with 4-5 dollar guitar center cables than monster cables.

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

I think it would be cool if they sued Metallica though for Some Kind of Monster, just to give them a taste of their own medicine (the Napster case).

But besides that I think the whole thing is retarded as hell!

I've heard a lot of crazy stories, but this one takes the cake. How can any reputable judge put rulings in favor of Monster Cable? It is completely ridiculous. I could understand a little bit where Fender was coming from with stopping people copying their patents, but Monster Cable has NO ground to stand on anywhere on these legal cases.

F*ck Monster, get Bayou cables. Cheaper and sound a heck of a lot better ;)

Anyone know what you should throw to a drowning lawyer?

His partner, of course!!! :)

If the wire is sufficient gauge, I'm not sure the electrons care what the name on the package is.

do you guys really hear any difference in same size gauge wire? hahaha! I guess my ears are toast at 43. Sorry. I'll keep dropping insane money into things which have differences I can hear and appreciate.

Good gravy!

I thought all this high-end cable stuff was nonsense until I bought a pedal board pack of George L stuff and decided to add enough to my order to get a 10' cable too. Going straight guitar->cord->amp, I really could hear a difference - especially in the high end and harmonics - between the cables I had. The surprise was that my "California" Fender cable, the most expensive one I had at the time, actually sounded the worst.

My conclusion is that the cable material (capacitance), the shielding, the connectors, and how tought the outer wrapping is, do all make a difference. The connectors are key - the greatest wire with cheapo connectors won't make a decent cable.

Jimi and Stevie sounded awesome with phone cords. Great!

Personally, I need all the help I can get, so I use George L stuff for patch cords and make my own cables with some Belden wire Chaos helped me spec out and Neutriks plugs. George L stuff is really clean sounding, but not tough enough for cables IMHO. So far, so good.

Im gonna make a company called "Monster Gables" and Ill start making Gables. :D

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

I wouldn’t buy their cables just on the basis of the ‘pseudo-scientific’ BS that MonsterCables uses to describe their products…

Terms like: “Dual multi-gauge Time Correct® wire networks” and “Magnetic Flux Tube®” sound impressive to the uneducated, but are nothing more than marketing gimmicks.

Good luck trying to find ‘usable’ information on the cables (i.e. impedance / capacitance / resistance per foot, etc) for comparison with other brands.

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

I can say one thing... if I was in the market to buy some high end cables and I couldn't interpret all the marketing BS, I'd be tempted to follow Seymour and Evan's lead....

I guess it's a matter of taking the gear advice from someone you trust. The few high end cables I tried got returned pretty fast. I would give this Cordex a try if I was so inclined.

Case in point, I was visiting SD one day and Evan tossed me a set of Everly Strings. I would likely have never tried them. And, guess what, they're awesome. Made on all new/current equipment. Very consistent quality control. I've still tried other brands from time to time, even though I have an excess of the Everly's. The ones from Kendrick were just crap. I tried some others, just didn't do it for me.

Anyone else ever heard of Cordex? Anyone got a website?

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

I have friends that work in IP ... I will have them look into the truthfullness of these lawsuit claims.

"I mean, why don't you go beat up on the March of Dimes?"

What a great quote! :)

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

Im gonna make sure not to ever consider using or buying monster cables

What is this i hear about Dimarzio?

This is big business at work here guys... its awful

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

My fave cables to this day are a set of Hotwires with brass mil-spec plugs, great sounding cables ... have no idea who made them though, they were around about a decade ago.

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

It's a sad day when companies start trademarking certain words because it believes it will otherwise lose profits in some way or another if it doesn't seek those rights.

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

Let´s say that Monster´s legal BS didn´t make my change to wireless any harder ;)

Re: If you didn't like Monster Cables already...

This appears to be what passes for R&D these days.

+1 for the Mogami cables.

One word...Spectraflex.

Yeah, they are good for guitar, but I heard they are a bit thin for bass ... but that's not first hand experience mind you. Not to jump topic, but does anyone remember who actually made Hotwires? I'm just curious ...anyone?

Monster Cables suing "monster garage" and all that other stuff is just ridiculous.

My Monster Cables were Christmas presents. I think they sound great. I also can't afford new cables right now.

Screw this boycotting crap...I can't afford to!
