If you had 720 bucks...

Re: If you had 720 bucks...

i would, hands down, buy a Celtic amp because it fits my needs perfectly and would have awesome components compared to anything else out there, but the problem is that as soon as my 2nd JBL auction on ebay is over, i dont have an amp at all.

I need to attend practices and gigs so im just scouting the market. My first choice right now is a DRRI, but at 22 watts it seems a bit weak, which is why i have been pondering putting a more efficient speaker into it, and/or fitting it with higher output 6V6's than the black groove tubes it comes with.

Don't underestimate the power of 22 watts in a tube amp. That's pretty freakin loud still and plenty loud for practicing and gigging small clubs. I've seen guys play with Fender Blues Jr. amps in small clubs and their stage volume was plenty loud. Heck, run 2 of those in stereo and it would sound really nice.

DRRI is a leopard that won't change its spots no matter the speaker or tubes. I tried a few years back. It distorts rather quickly, so not much clean head room. 1-3 it's a beautiful clean that, if mic'd, would be perfect for clubs. 4-6 it distorts beautifully, 7-10 it goes into meltdown mode.

I'm not pimping my stuff too hard. I'm close to being able to ship Franklins, but getting the cabs or head enclosures made is taking some time. Iv'e got a black head enclosure on order and my 1x12 wood combo is about to arrive for my staining this weekend. Pics soon.

Next up is my Fender Tweed Reverb. Parts are arriving as I type.

wow, interesting. But you use les pauls, and i run strats with low output SC's.

guess i'll try the GC 'rental', if that doesn't go smoothly, who knows, maybe i'll borrow an amp from someone and e-mail you for my own brenna.

Re: If you had 720 bucks...

so you're going for a tweed reverb? Wasn't there a post about how that circuit didn't balance well with reverb or something? Oh well, if it sounds good, it sounds good.

Vox AC30...
Or if you wanna go used, Look around HAAAAAAAAAARD and get a used mesa/boogie 1x12 Mark IV

Re: If you had 720 bucks...

While it would take some hard looking, I'm sure you could get a used Hughes & Kettner Mk. 1 Triamp for around there. That's really the best amp I can think of for the money, I still wish I had mine (although I love my current amp, so I can't complain).
