If you had to use one pickup....

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

I started to say Pearly Gates bridge, but then I realized I’ve gotten way more gigging mileage out of my Tele SD Broadcaster bridge.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

My answer has changed in the last year, but for now, it would be the Jason Becker Perpetual Burn. Killer pup. Great parallel and split too.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

Last few years for me it's been the Full Shred because it's not overly hot and in your face yet it still does it's thing for me very well, but prior to that it was a mix of Bill/Becky L500XL's and EMG-81's.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

For me it's the JB. It's my go-to. It can be picky about what guitar it's in, but in the right guitar, it can't be beat.

Hot Pearly Gates in Bridge

But dang Dave - tough question. Custom was a very close 2nd - even though I like a Distortion more, and think a 59/Custom would be a better choice.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

I have no idea. 95 % of my playing I use two singles either in parallel or series...

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

For me, the black winter is great.

If I had to choose active: fishman fluence classic. It’s a JB and a Seth and a single all in one.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

SH-9 Silverbird. I absolutely love this pickup! It has amazing tone, great clarity, articulation and just enough output to make it dangerous. I want to buy all these i can find and/or have MJ make me a few from the Custom Shop.

For neck pickup, i would chose the APH1 (especially the NJ versions). Love the think, bluesy tone it offers. With that said, the Jazz can really sound amazing in certain guitars as well.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

P-Rails for the tonal variety.

If P-Rails had never been invented, it would be the Custom.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

APTL-3JD (Jerry Donahue model) or Fender Custom Shop Nocaster bridge pickup.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

Black Winter. I play a lot of metal, but also a lot of non-metal, and the Winter covers so much ground without sacrificing quality.

Re: If you had to use one pickup....

EMG 60 with a volume pot and a tone pot. Can be put in neck or bridge (maybe middle?).
