I love my Les Pauls but I have no purpose for these robot guitars. As far as I'm concerned, it's another point of failure in a long chain - a part of the guitar that can break. That said, I'm sure there's a market for them, however small.

I got to see one up close...even though the people at the store, which usually let me play and mess with EVERYTHING didn't even let me hold that guitar.

That is because they are notorious for breaking. Lot's of warrenty work going on with these.

Well except for the fact you'd have to carry six amps or a six input processor the other LP (HD I think it was) was more than innovative. Being able to power a super long cord was a great idea.

This thing was in Jerry Garcia's guitars as far back as the early/mid '70s. Combine that with an on-board effects loop and good Y-cable and you've got some interesting stuff happening for your sound possibilities. Innovation hasn't been a Gibson strong-point in several decades. If the Roland Corp hadn't come out with their synth pickup Fender would be sucking air too. Both of those companies are in a huge rut when it comes to new ideas, so they tend to rely on "new" signature models of les pauls and strats. Or they come up with gadgetry to appear a little more "this century."

Do the electronics and gadgetry mean that there will finally be a balanced SG on the market?

But, erm, no, I'm willing to bet that a lot (most?) of the gadgetry will be at the headstock so...
