If you want a 'Tele-sound', but do not like the 'Tele-look'

Re: If you want a 'Tele-sound', but do not like the 'Tele-look'

I'd say aside that in terms of appearance, aside from the electronics, I'm getting more of a Jazzmaster vibe from it.

*nods* Yeah, I'd say that, for all intents and purposes, it's a factory made Jazzcaster.

Can't help you with mass production, but if you want tele sound with a cooler look and better ergonomics too that I can do :D...

Not to be contradictory but I myself am more partial to this:

Apart from Mike's superlative creations, the new Talmans are pretty cool - MIJ versions come stock with A2 Pro Duncans as well (metal knurled knobs would be better on T-style but easily changeable).

+1 for the PRS S2 Vela - now that I've been playing mine for a while, live straight into an amp it sounds like a really well recorded Tele, especially when the bridge is split. It's got it's own thing going on, but it can definitely hit the Tele mark.

That Purple "tele" is purdy ... and I'm not much into Teles, maple boards or purple guitars (although I do have 1 purple guitar).

Check out the Backlund 200, presently being crowd-funded by Eastwood Guitars.

Or their tribute to the Mosrite 300/350.

Actually, both of these are sort of Tele-looking guitars that don't look like Teles, but the bridge humbuckers are getting away from "Tele-sounding". So, not really what the OP was looking for but very cool nonetheless.

Blasphemy!!

How can anyone NOT like the Tele look?

It's a question of age, it grows on you, like country music and comfortable underwear!

Now got offa my lawn!

Haha, honestly, I was never a fan of the look either, or the ergonomics.

I like the look but the comfort isn't as good as some designs for me. I just ordered a Jazzmaster body from Warmoth that will be a hardtail with some Tele elements to it. If it doesn't twang enough, I may have to put a plate on the bottom of the bridge pickup and a metal mounting ring to get the proper tone. Yeah, I like country so what can I say?

Re: If you want a 'Tele-sound', but do not like the 'Tele-look'

I am all for altering components of a body to make it more comfortable. I think you can get a good Tele tone with different shapes and the right electronics- and the right bridge.

I owned a Tele for like a week. Loved the sound and the looks, but absolutely hated the baseball bat neck, the round fretboard, and the tiny frets. :(

The beautiful D'Avanzo up there reminds me of the Dream Studios Twang:

I had one of these. It was a great guitar, just not for me. It would be really good for someone who wants a very modern update on the traditional Tele.

Pickups are the Jerry Donahue bridge (awesome pickup) and A2Pro Strat neck (a really smart combo), locking tuners, high quality construction by the same Korean company that makes PRS SE and high end Schecters.

The neck was, oddly, like an Ibanez Wizard - thin/flat/jumbo frets. Not for me but a lot of other folks would dig it (Rex_Rocker, perhaps).
